This is the most "normal" quest in my list. It's just a very solid old 1.92 quest that does a lot of cool ambitious things from start to finish. I've beaten this one twice, and it's aged quite well for what it is. Progression is steady, the difficulty curve is good and balanced, the dungeons are all pretty neat (though probably standard for modern standards). While it's definitely pretty normal, it's super ahead of its time.

So I've never tried this one? I just never got around to it. It looks really cool though, and it's a pretty popular quest, so I imagine I'll have fun with it.

A thread for the Quest can be found on the PureZC Discord here!

We are also featuring the original Link's Birthday for this Quest Club! The differences between the two make both quests worth giving a shot; and both are comparitively on the short side compared to some of the other quests we've covered. If you have already finished LInk's Birthday DX and want more cake to sink your birthday-craving fangs into, why not try the original and see how it compares?

I tend to play these quest club quests a few months behind schedule, but kudos to the community for highlighting all of these quests.

The DX version held up extremely well for me.  Definitely on the easier side, though there are some spots that could prevent a zero-death run if you’re not careful (e.g. the mirror-robe guarding the red mail).

For being released in the ZC 1.92 era, there is a lot of tech to love in this quest’s dungeons.  The ice puzzles in L5 were fun.  If you didn’t like the “forest in the sky” area that held the L2 sword, then ZC probably wasn’t for you back in ~2005.  The few dungeons that had “switch gems” (I'm not sure how else to describe it lol -- but it's what was responsible for e.g. the fog in L6, and the barriers that usually were found in side dungeons) made dungeon exploration feel unique.  I can only think of Dreams of Yesterday as another 1.92 quest that wrestled with such “switch gem tech” and pulled it off in a way that was fun for the player.

I've always loved and admired this Quest Club series. It reminds me of how some forum members would kind

of team up and work down quests on the Quest forums. I've wanted to join in but haven't had as much time as

I'd like.

That being said, this choice is a great one. While I never played either version mentioned here, I did

play Link's Christmas which is a holiday skinned version of this quest. Still essentially the same quest with

the same maps and levels. It was one of my favorites. If I recall Link's Christmas is the pre-DX version,

so it's the same as the original Link's Birthday.

As for the quest, I loved the use of "Dire Dire Docks" as the Level 2 dungeon theme. I got stuck on Level 4 for

awhile due to a bug if I recall where the entrance didn't load you right, but I somehow found a way to get

around it. The bug I think was unique to the Christmas version. I ended up finishing the quest and it was

so much fun and so satisfying to play. Definitely a classic in the database.

Nice choice though. Hope everyone has fun playing it:)
