I should post my thoughts too on each dungeon.

Eastern Palace:

Good first real dungeon. Nothing super remarkable, but it's not bad by any means either. Good display of elevation in dungeons too.

5/7

Desert Palace:

Probably one of the weaker dungeons for me. Again not bad, but just kinda empty and rather short if you know where to go. I guess it's cool you can skip almost half of it though.

3/7

Tower of Hera:

I like this dungeon even if it can be a bit tedious getting knocked down by Troldorm. That said all the pendant dungeon bosses are fun.

4/7

Hyrule Castle:

Both visits are good imo. Good intro, and good midgame (kinda) climactic action. It's a good test of everything you've done so far.

5/7

Dark Palace:

One of my more liked dungeons. It's fairly complex, and steps up in difficulty. As a kid playing this, this was my "git gud" dungeon. It can be a bit of a skill check. I like how you can sort of sequence break it in a way, and it has probably my favorite boss in the game.

6/7

Swamp Palace:

I like this one a lot too. It's a solid water themed dungeon and the draining water gimmick is neat. It's like a proto-water temple. Hookshot is also a fun item so that's cool too. Boss is okay.

5/7

Skull Woods:

I want to like this dungeon more but it's... just kinda boring to me. I like the theme, and having multiple entrances is a neat gimmick but it's just kinda of a road bump for me. It might be my least favorite darkworld dungeon.

3/7

Thieves Town:

I actually like this dungeon quite a bit even though it's probably the shortest dungeon in the game (behind desert palace maybe). Very neat gimmick, generally kinda weird vibe, and that one troll room after you get the item is funny.

5/7

Ice Palace:

Like Skull Woods I want to like this dungeon more and I appreciate what it's going for as it has one of the stronger themes in the game. I always do level 6 first so I can skip that one puzzle, and at this point I forget how to do it legit. I do really like the boss though. Generally this dungeon can be a bit of a slog, and I don't like the ice physics in this game at all lmao.

4/7

Misery Mire:

This is unironically my favorite dungeon in the game even if it might not be the best dungeon in the game. I can understand why a lot of people don't like it though. It's big, confusing, has a lot of spikes, and kinda doesn't have a strong theme like some of the other dungeons. I see it more as a Dark Palace 2.0. I think a large part of why I like it is nostalgia to be fair. Unsure if I'd enjoy it as a new player as much these days. I struggled a lot with Eagle's Tower in LA but that's also a lot of people's favorite dungeon so it's kinda like that. If I didn't grow up on this game I'm unsure if I'd still like this dungeon that much. I think I also got stuck here a lot as a kid so it felt good to finally beat it. My attitude towards, and patience with games has changed a lot though so it's hard to say.

6/7

Turtle Rock:

A lot of what I said above also applies to this dungeon. I like this dungeon but it does have some really annoying parts, mainly that maze room, and the other room where you need to light the torches from the moving platform. I also find it funny that this is the only dungeon in the entire game that uses lava in one room, yet that lava is like, the default ZC lava, or was for a long time at least. I do really like the boss though, Trinexx is up there with Helmasaur King, Kholdstare, and Vitreous for favorite bosses.

5/7

Ganon's Tower:

I also like this dungeon a lot too. It's kind of the last time we got a real final dungeon for a really long time imo. It's a solid final dungeon.

6/7

Palace of the Four Sword:

Haven't played this dungeon in ages, but it was cool from what I remember. I like the boss rematches. I remember some of the rooms having interesting puzzles, but this dungeon is rather short.

4/7

edit: I probably should have made both Hyrule Castle visits separate choices in hindsight. Also, I agree with Hari about the magic in Turtle Rock (and even Ice Palace to an extent). Remember, you can freeze enemies with either the ice rod or ether medallion, kill them with the hammer and almost always get a full magic refill jar. You can also get free green potions if you throw an empty bottle into the fairy fountain near Zora's river.

The common thread I'm seeing in this... well, thread, is you're either an Ice Palace apologist or a Misery Mire apologist.

I wanna bring up one last point about Thieves Town which I don't think has been brought up in this thread: It's really cool how it like, kind of extends onto the overworld? By that which I mean you can see the 1F upstairs rooms with the windows from the Village of Outcasts. It's really cool and gives a sense of the dungeon as a physical space... and actually a weirdly claustrophobic one given that 1F seems to be half underground?

The more I think about Thieves' Town the more I wanna rate it really highly, actually. Oh, and the big gargoyle thing where you have to pull off the pitchfork gate to get in... that's a really awesome setpiece.

Yeah I think Level 4 is one of the most unique and interesting dungeons, in spite of how small it is. Love how you can also get the big key literally right away. I kind of like how LttP dabbled in themed dungeons, but also still had more... vague themes and not super in your face gimmicks for each theme all the time if that makes sense. Levels 4, and 6 don't really have an elemental theme, which they'd use going forward. I'd even argue that Dark Palace doesn't really have a theme, but it kinda does cause it has a few dark rooms, but outside of that... it's kinda just a dungeon. I also agree about the paywall being kinda dumb but at least it's easy to get money it LttP. All my homies hate Kiki.

Yeah, I was kind of mind blown when I pieced that together a few years ago - and it's connected to the building in the Light World that lore dumps the boss. Really cool. I definitely feel like it's the one dungeon for me that will grow on me more and more with time. It just has a very weak first impression, which is wild to me because other than the first bit, it's a very inspired dungeon.

I do wonder how many people got stuck on the pitchfork thing, I forget if there was a hint for it or not. I mean, I found it as a kid, so I guess it wasn't that bad. I think I had more trouble getting into Misery Mire, if any dungeon was confusing to get into.

Iirc an NPC says they hear voices coming from below the statue but I don't think they ever mention to pull on the bars directly.

One of these is the correct stance, and the other is Misery Mire apologist.

I'm sorry I hate entirely linear dungeons with no shortcuts that you have to redo in its entirety every time you die :P

(Voted Swamp Palace, incidentally. Probably the least cool vibes of any LttP dungeon, but mechanically it's just solid. Also Hookshot.)

I always had the player's guide for alttp, so I didn't exactly need to piece it together myself. Speaking of which, the alttp player's guide is fucking amazing. It has LOTS of really good art and shit in it. Including a bunch of really cool artworks that summarises the first two games.

Honestly I love them all, but Ganon's tower is my favorite, I love the trials of just using everything you learned, the aesthetic also just kills. It's a proper final dungeon!

This is evil for making us choose. Eastern Palace will always have a place in my heart, as well as Skull Woods and Misery Mire. Honestly ALttP is just overall a solid game with fantastic dungeons overall.

I think the fact that the poll is pretty even across the board is pretty telling to the overall quality of alttp.
