Just a heads up that this is still something I'm consciously assessing. I'm still very aware of SotW participation, particularly as the last month or so of contests have been carried by 3 to 4 people consistently.

Would be sad to see it go. As I've said privately, if you need help, or don't want to run it (beg for submissions every week) I'd be willing to help out. I think the contest should just go on as is, if there aren't enough submissions, postpone it. I feel like the two week format was unpopular, and getting rid of it entirely would be pretty lame imo. If it were months and months with no entries, I'd be more concerned, but given the community's size, I think the contest is as healthy as it can be.

edit: I also don't see SR replacing it. It's a very different contest, and one with a much higher bar of entry imo.

Maybe lose the "of the Week" part of the contest and let's just name it "Screenshot contest", as I've suggested before. Then there is no need to worry about the amount of screenshots per week. Each contest could run at least a week, but also an indefinite time at weekly intervals.

You've been doing great work on it TacoChopper, I really appreciate your efforts!

And I've been more active with ZC again lately after some months of hiatus, so my submission will be more frequent now. Though I've been mostly working on cutscenes and bosses lately, I'm going back to more screen design soon.

If the decision is made to retire the contest, it would be sad, but I’d understand. I’d hope for at least an advance announcement, such as “we’ll wrap things up for good this December.” Hopefully a Screenshot of the Year tournament would be held as normal followed by a subsequent Screenshot of Eternity tournament among all of the Screenshot of the Year winners.

This is pretty much my intent with the contest at this stage - that said, I haven't determined whether it'd be permanent or if it's just for 2026. I don't think a year off would change too much in the grand scheme of things long-term - submissions, etc - but I do want to do a Screenshot of All Time contest throughout next year in place of Screenshot of the Week. Something where it's every SotM winner* from 2003 up to now. We'll hit Screenshot of the Month 216 by the end of the year; dividing that over 54 weeks means we get 4 submissions per contest.

* denoting that the earliest SotM winners are actually on the database, of course.

Come on, at least let someone else host the contest if you're feeling that way about it...
