Bikdip's Adventure 2: Electric Boogaloo by Jish/BikdipOnABus

The long-awaited (at least by me) and often-delayed sequel of Bikdip's Adventure is finally completed! Please don't let the crappiness of the first quest deter you from trying this one out. It was my first quest, and I didn't really know what I was getting into. This one is infinitely better in all aspects.

This is my personal favorite quest in the database. It's brimming with creativity, dry humor, and while some of the dungeons haven't aged well design wise, others are some of my favorite dungeons in all of ZC. I have replayed this quest on several occasions to the point where I know every single secret by memory, and it's not particularly long either. The only concern with playing this one that due to it being split into two quests made in 2 separate ZC versions, there's more potential for compatibility issues depending on the 2.55 alpha you're using. Most of my suggestions are going to be old classical dungeon rompers, and this is my favorite out of any of them.

There's also two secrets that as much as I like them on paper, as they are both references to Banjo-Kazooie's Stop 'n Swop, they ask you to do something that even the creator has said isn't the best idea, which is playing the first game. I'll go ahead and say what to do in both Stop 'n Swop instances in the thread if this gets rolled.

Also a mild warning, even though there's no flashing lights, Level 6 (much as I love that dungeon) and the Bonus Dungeon may cause potential eye strain with how they are visually presented, so just be aware of that.

It seems that whenever 1.90 is mentioned, this quest inevitably is brought up. Despite being released in a time when 2.10 was out of date and 2.50 was on the horizon, its creator decided to finish the quest in 1.90, using all the tricks of the trade to make it shine. Or so I've been told. I've admittedly not played it myself, something I intend to fix now. Come take a gander at a mix of old school limitations and somewhat more modern sensibilities that is still being discussed 15 years after its release.

You can join discussion of the quest in the Discord thread, which can be found here. We encourage casual discussion in the Discord thread and longer thoughts on the quest in the forum thread here.

NOTE: I forgot to mention that the database release of the quest is significantly outdated, and the original freewebs site that it's hosted on is down now, here's a video with a google doc in the description containing everything including the part 2 and updated version of the quest: https://www.youtube....h?v=BHyLvBQAYiI

I said in my description of the quest in my curator's list that I would go ahead and go over both Stop n Swop instances in the quest. If you'd like to figure them out yourself, feel free to not click the spoiler tags. Note that the 2nd instance of the Stop n Swop has an inaccessible hint due to minor compatibility issue with later versions of ZC.

Instance 1 (After Level 3)

Instance 2 (After Level 4)

Realistically, I didn't need to provide the answer for the first instance at all, since getting the answer is pretty easy to access ingame, but I still figured I'd list it anyways incase you don't wanna use rupees for some reason.

Beat it for the 3rd time this month.

Still peak. I think it's high time I make a comprehensive review of it.

The quest does have some tremendous flaws. Pretty much everything from Level 5 to the path leading to level 6 (and depending on perspective, including level 6 itself) is absolutely a slog. Level 4 has more or less zero check-pointing, resulting in a scenario where it's a fantastic dungeon so long as you don't die. The 1st 3 dungeons, while still quite creative, don't quite do the rest of the quest justice and mostly just go into the category of "pretty good." I used to say that Level 7 was my favorite, and it does still have my favorite actual theming, but Level 8 has especially become my favorite dungeon in the quest, and I've learned to love Level 9 just as much. I've always felt a bit of a disconnect between part 2 and the rest of the quest, but if BA2 Complete gets a public release, that will probably be resolved entirely.

I think the best way to describe why I adore this quest so much in spite of its clear flaws is that I think there's a certain soul behind this quest that increases the memorability of it for me forevermore. Many of its inspirations are held on its sleeve, from Banjo-Kazooie, Homestar Runner, Pokemon, Metroid, old forum humor, youtube poops, and hell, even just meta humor about how ZC works in of itself. So much of this results in a vibe that's simultaneously a product of its time, and something that can still be looked back on fondly. All of these inspirations makes the sheer amount of style clash graphically feel less like jank, and more just feels like another big part of the appeal. It's an unabashed celebration of all of Jish's hobbies.

With Bargo himself being a character from a weird ancient web novel as well, it means that the ending will be totally incomprehensible to some people, and honestly that's still charming in its own way.

This quest alongside much of Exate's stuff had a tremendous effect on my own personal style of making content, and it's no wonder this is still my favorite quest on the database, even if I continue to find wonderfully technically impressive quests over the years. The reason I adore it is my connection to it, and I still hope people can understand the appeal of the kind of quest this is even today.

Hallo,

I love retro gaming and Zelda style games, so the game brought me a lot of joyful moments with its absurd humor and diverse, colorful locations that encouraged exploration. The puzzles were challenging, and the satisfaction of solving them made every minute spent in the game full of excitement and fun.

James ;)

When I try to download part 2 (I use the link on the YouTube page) it says it's "encrypted" and won't let me copy it to the ZC folder.  Any fixes for this?  I'd like to finish the game.  The old link no longer works.
