Finally things are calming down at my job and I've had time to work on this quest. Like I said in my previous update one of the first priorities was to create a teaser video of Grayscale Field, Colour Theft and it's boss Von Heraldzaft. Without further ado:



It's very different from the original quest, please let me know what you think. :D


Further news on the project: in my estimation it will be finished in roughly 2 years from now. It's clear to me I can't keep working on this every day and that I also sometimes will need a short break from development. Besides that things simply take far longer than I expected, because I put a lot of effort into each area. At this rate each world and it's respective dungeon takes about half a year to finish. 5 more to go + the final dungeon so I fear that I'm even too optimistic with my 2 year estimation.

The good news is that I will begin testing soon with some friends to get real-time feedback and my aim is to release the demo after that. The demo will contain all the content you've seen in the teaser videos (World 1, 2 and 3) and I hope you are excited about it!


I've had some kind-hearted feedback and I'm very thankful and greatly motivated by that. Thanks everyone for the continued support! :bounce:

Looking really amazing! I enjoy the dungeon aesthetic. My only critique is the fireball SFX sounds very... abrasive? Especially with the Manhandla.

 

Also 10/10 for Yoshi's Island music.

Thank you Shane. I also learned a new word today, "abrasive"  :upside:

 

I personally love this fireball SFX, because it sounds so... abrasive hehe

I'd like to change it, but I'm not sure what would improve it. Maybe make it less loud? I have Audacity installed, so I should be able to accomplish that.

 

For those wondering, the SFX is from Stronghold Crusader. If you have the game installed you can steal... I mean, borrow any SFX from the game's folder

Normal enemies didn't lose thier colors in the remake? They lost thier colors in the original...

Mhhh That Looks Great as You Sayd Very Different but I Think Easyer to Navigate as it Took a While Til I Notized The Right Blocks and Functions to Progress There :D

That's right, but it has it's reasons. Primarily it was too much work to make it happen, but it can be explained like this: Von Heraldzaft stole all the colours and the monsters are his minions.

I completely understand. CastChaos and I made custom sprites for this world in the original, but those sprites were of course very different from the usual. I decided that in the remake the sprites shouldn't be different at all.

He certainly is a lot tougher DFS. All bosses will be scripted and tougher than the original quest.


I have good news: the demo is now in testing phase and should be released in 2 weeks or so. It also seems some really nice and stable builds for 2.55 have been released, I will try to find the most suitable alpha version before I release the demo.
