HighSight did a pretty positive review of Demons of Scheherazade; you can see it here:

https://www.twitch.t...ight/v/64409748

(Review starts at 1:46)

A few pictures I did (larger than in-game) to guide the spriting.

Sabaron.png

A bust of Sabaron. If you've finished the Prologue, you've already made his acquaintance.

Smilax.png

Smilax, the grandmother of Sasparilla, who may or may not enjoy your visit to the Moroon of 100 years ago.

Otherwise, I've been tinkering with C again and doing a little mapping, not much hard work. Why? Because I am still interested to see if anyone wants to help out with the project. While I have design, code, and artwork covered, I could use help on audio and map design. And I know for a fact some of you out there are good at these things!

Apparenty no body reacted to this post yet - at least in here. So, I am just leaving a note that these look very nice. While they leave some things to be desired in terms of execution the concept as such seems solid. Thumbs up! :approve:

Fun game. However, I can't tell if there's a bug or I'm just not guessing the right ingredient.

Your first word answer is correct; enter the numbers on at a time, without inserting zeroes for one digit numbers or anything like that.

Got it. The issue was that there was one more slot for numbers than the code provided. I was putting the extra slot at the end rather than the beginning.

123412340 as opposed to 012341234

It seems to me that you might want to either hint that somewhere or remove the extra space. It was really confusing wondering why none of the condiment items gave enough numbers to fill the lock.

edit: on the boss now. Fighting a guy that requires you to have full magic without a reliable way to replenish lost magic is a bit of a slog. Dying a lot to a boss is fun. Having to farm ten minutes between each attempt isn't.

Is there any way short of pulling up the alchemy menu to replenish magic in that fight?

It'd also be great if the talking menu was disabled when froggie gets out of the tub. There's been a few attempts cut way to short because while I've been trying to kill that pop up he gets me in a corner and there goes half my life.

Yeah, there are some kinks to iron out; stopping the dialog when you piss off the speaker is certainly one of them.

As for Magic; you actually don't have to hit Gilame with Magic when his mouth is actually open - just to GET it open.  Now, Magic lets you machine gun him pretty bad, but your sword actually does a fine job once he's stunned.  That's probably not super clear from the hints during the fight.

Maybe make it explicit you need to hit with magic first? The in game text seems to imply that the only thing that works on him is magic. And from the first few fights, I believed it.

On night two of trying to beat this dude footnotes:

- replenishing mana is less of a concern knowing that sword strikes work after you hit him with magic once. It'st still kinda annoing

- it'd be great if the text updates froze battle action- cause as is, I can't really bother to read them given the live combat happening

- still not sure how to fight this thing- if I hug the bottom areas it's safer to dodge attacks, but the mouth opens less often

- for each match against the boss I still need to grind for 1-5 minutes. When I get a book of magic early that's fine, but when it takes a few screens, it annoying. If the alchemy remedy cured magic 100% instead of just an insignificant 8pt that would help alleviate this I feel.

- I feel lucky if I can make it to the boss with over 100 life due to having to restart at the start.

- Suiciding very often because HP gets below 60 with no damage done, and have to repeat the process of getting to boss/replenishing spent resources

- Maaaan it's easy to go from 60 life to 0 given getting trapped in a corner or other happenstance.

& I hope it was clear from the last post, but you really need to make it clear that the first slot in that puzzle can be left empty, or remove the extra # slot completely. There's no way to know as a player that you can leave the blank slot in front of the combination blank. It's counter-intuitive, and leads the player to thiink that they have chosen the wrong ingredient, vs. the wrong combination.

&& I should note despite my responses, this is a really fantastic game you've cobbled together. Please keep the good work. You're great at this.

FINALLY BEAT HIM -

finale notes: text in the last scene could go a lot slower. It was had to keep up with the default pace.

Thanks!

Until I get back around to continuing this, you can try and finish the Prologe without hurting ANYONE. Baddies included! Oh, and do nice things for a lot of people. Earn that Saint rank!
