Some Basic Info:

I will be posting updates about once a week for this quest.

My plan for this quest is to recreate Link's Awakening DX. Since Link's Awakening's screen size is different from Zelda Classic's, I will be recreating screens to fit the ZC screen size. I will be constructing the dungeons from scratch, and the dungeons will be similar in shape to Link's Awakening's dungeons. I will also add in bonus dungeons that are not in Link's Awakening.

This quest will have many scripts in order to have the features of Link's Awakening. Since I will be writing many of the scripts, expect a lot of scripting questions from me in the coming months.

Why can't I write anything without sounding super formal???? :doh:

Basic info aside, let's talk about what I am currently doing with this quest.

Right now, I am building Mabe Village. As of now, I have made only one screen. :sweat: This screen contains Marin's house. I will post some screenshots as I make more progress. Since my spring break started today, I will be making a lot of progress over the next week.

Once I have more screens made, I will post some screenshots to this thread, and I will add one or two to the main project page.

Once again, I can't seem to write anything without sounding super formal... :whistle:

Like you said, ZC has much larger of a screen size than the original Game Boy. As a result, a house and yard that took up the entire screen on the original looks rather small on yours. You may want to enlarge the houses to try and fit a bit better. For example, Marin's house could have the fence made a tile larger in all directions, and Madame Meow Meow's house may look better enlarged up/down and left/right a bit. Only enlarging the open areas, even though you adapted the ground decorations to compensate, still makes the environment look a bit more barren. You're going to want to expand the solid objects as well.

 

What about if you were to start with a screenshot of a screen in LA, and color over the tiles so you have a set of two different single-color 16x16 blocks. Stretch the image to fit the screen size of ZC, and it should give you an idea roughly on how to shape the ZC screen.

I agree with Kurt, but the screens still look pretty faithful. Keep up the good work!

I will see what I can do about the houses. I guess making Madame MeowMeow's house bigger might make the doghouse look smaller, making it look more like a doghouse. And maybe while I am at it, I could script the doghouse glitch world! :superevil: *Laughs maniacally* Wait, I mean, what are we talking about? :whistle:

If you manage to create a glitched out doghouse world, you need to script together something like Iji's Null Driver (If you don't know what it is, a quick YouTube search should bring it up). You manage something like this, you've got Quest of the Year.

I had to edit some tiles in order to make the houses larger. The windows on the purple house look kind of weird...  :worried:

I think something looks off about the perspective of the blue house.
