Well, technically not a new area. I discussed this one before in an older topic, but this time I have actually made more than one screen.

Yes, Crystal Crusades is now again under development. When I decided on the quest plans, I was very active in ZC and had in mind to create tons of overworld, interior and dungeons to explore. Now all this time later I regret that decision, for it made this quest so long in development now, but the good thing is: it's mostly done now. So it was time to work on one of the last overworld areas.

The overworld I'm working on right now has different regions so to speak, but it's generally known as Gergely's Kingdom, as the king is named Gergely and this is his.... kingdom? Well, not all is his kingdom nowadays, but let me explain by handling every region individually.

Dunarea Wetlands

These beautiful, peaceful looking lands are the home of the biggest river in Krelaila (the main world). It's lush vegetation and lack of tough enemies (at the moment there are none at all, wip) make this one of the more relaxing areas in Gergely's Kingdom. However things changed a bit now. The bridges crossing the river have been destroyed to keep the Rebonites in the land from spreading elsewhere, so it's a bit harder to travel through now.

The Rotting Plains

Now this is what is troubling Gergely's Kingdom, the Rebonites! (for those who do not know, the main enemies in this quest) They set up camp here, where Dunarea Village used to be. In other words, they slaughtered everyone in the village (or enslaved some), destroyed everything and built their own fortress right on top of it. Stupid Rebonites!

The plains surrounding the fortress are rotting and have boiling (hurting) soil at some places. Those damn Rebonites destroy the entire environment!

Kumaka Jungle

The center of the kingdom, Kumaka Jungle, has a maze-ish design and many spiky things. It's not a nice area to be, but now the only remotely safe route to get to the Molten Spire, because the route from Dunarea Village to the Molten Spire is blocked by the Rebonites. Still, I think you'll love the ambiance in this area.

This screenshot was submitted to Screenshot: Challenge Accepted a long while back, though it's changed by now. This was really the first screen in the entire map that was made, and everything is built around it.

The Molten Spire

This is where King Gergely resides and the only living people in the kingdom are. They battle of Rebonites constantly from this mighty volcano and supplies are very tight. Lava and voilence is to be expected anywhere.

Inside the Molten Spire

After going through much trouble to get in (I just used cheats, hihi), this is the interior/castle of the Molten Spire. They have free heating.

Other progress

I'm fixing things, I'm scripting things, I'm composing songs, designing areas, spriting and thinking up concepts all at the same time. The progress is massive over the past few weeks. I made many, many areas playable. I also improved and changed the intro (so I should change the video of it) and many cutscenes. I added houses and npcs all over the place. It's really beautiful seeing the thing you work on sooooo long is finally turning into a fine tuned product. And I'm churning out many bugs, so this won't be like NTAEL.

Still, I'm looking for some good and dedicated betatesters. I think I'll have a beta out in several weeks, so if you're interested, send me a PM. I'll appreciate you extremely much.

I second what CyberGamer said. These screens are quite impressive! The whole idea of the quest is quite good actually. I think I'm going to follow this project.

I glad to see this progress. As my English isn't enough to betatest sadly, I won't apply but hope for release  complete version.

Wow, much positive reactions! Thank you all!  :D

Stray Sheep, didn't you test for CastChaos before? I believe you are actually a good tester, but of course if you don't want to do it, it's fine. I have plenty of time to test it myself, but the problem usually is that I won't find the same bugs as someone who doesn't know every screen in the quest.

There is something I also forgot to include in this update, I made the screenshot but forgot to use it.  :lazy:

This is the game map and I wanted to show this to emphasize the size of the overworld. The green circle is the area I'm showing in this post (Gergely's Kingdom) and that is one full overworld map. So just counting from memory, there is like 11 full overworld maps total. Yes I know this is crazy and it explains why this took so long to make.  :heh:
