When I played twilight princess, I noticed how when you got a rupee from a chest with your wallet full, you put it back in the chest. And then I read online about how people didn't like that. So, I am here to propose to you a new idea: The Void Wallet.

Normally, if you collect rupees when you wallet is full or collect more rupees than you can hold, they just disappear, into the void. That's where The Void Wallet comes in. You go through the game as usual, when about 2/3 into the game, you go through an optional mini-dungeon which grants you this special wallet. What does it do? Well, first it lets you carry 10,00 rupees on it's own, an impressive feat for a Zelda game, one which was only almost obtained by Wind Waker, with it's 9,000 rupees max. Secondly, you find the wallet filled with all the rupees that exceeded your max in the game; Every single rupee that you picked up but couldn't hold. So you have this 10k wallet filled to the brim with your lost money; What happens if you somehow fill the wallet? Well, the rupees then end up in the Void Vault; the very place you obtained the wallet. So if you somehow fill up your wallet, then spend most/all of it, You can just return to the vault to pick up the rupees your couldn't hold in your Void Wallet. How do you like the idea?

Also, development has been in a sort of brainstorm process due to me having exams and all. I will hopefully have a real demo by summer.

I think I'd just pick up the wallet and then never return there ever to be honest. 10,000 rupees is way more than I'll ever need in a Zelda game anyways.

That's probably what most people would do, but it's there for the exceptions who like to spend alot and need to refill money. It's neat, but impractical ;P

If you were to balance it with a 10,000 rupee max in mind, Im sure it would work. Kinda like what Moosh said though, the wallet itself is a good idea, but Im not sure the vault concept is all that necessary.

This sounds like an excuse to use inflation against you.  You want that Mirror Shield?  3500 rupees, bucko!  Sword upgrade?  Ooh, that'll cost ya!  To put the icing on the cake, put a shopkeep in the final boss dungeon, right next to the boss door, that sells the final boss key for 9999 rupees.

And then wonder why nobody likes your game.

I think it's a great idea in concept- but as others have said, there really isn't much need for it unless you also jack up prices.  There's a whole thread elsewhere talking about the pains of rupee grinding.  A 10,000 rupee wallet would take a lot to fill.

Maybe this concept would be better if the normal wallet size is about 200 and the void wallet size is 500. But it definetly sounds interesting.

The primary reason why I really like this idea (And I have juggled similar thoughts myself for similar reasons) is because I hate wasting rupees.

Whenever I open a chest that contained 200 Rupees and my wallet was full, I would definitely start swearing in my head, thinking that I had just completely wasted something that I could never get back again.

Even if it stayed in the chest, you'd have to remember that it's there and go aaaalllll the way back to that chest just to get a large number of a thing that you're kinda getting in bits and pieces along the way anyway!

So there are pretty much mixed emotions on this.

I wonder what would happen if rupees that were gotten after maximum capacity is reached could be converted into something else.

The game will practically throws rupees at you. It won't have anything priced over 1,000 rupees, but most of you money would go into consumables; You can hold a fairly good amount of potions and fairies (You can hold about 15 bottle items at a time, so yeah), and you want them all, as this game will be pretty difficult. You won't need them if you are good, but the shops that sell them will be far placed (only about 2 in the game), and the dungeons that you would find them useful in are pretty far away from those shops. It's pretty inconvenient to go into a dungeon, use up all your fairies/potion/power ups, and having to trek back, so it's useful to stock up just in case. As mentioned before, there are temporary power ups, like magic/health regeneration, increased defense, etc. There are a lot of things to spend rupees on in this game, which are there for the players who will need them, which there most likely will be, and all the shops will likely be optional, and the ones that are required will probably be pretty cheap. Again, if you do manage to beat the game without buying any power ups or fairies or whatnot, you have my congratulations.

The Void Wallet...  I think it would be full by the time I got it.  I'm not very good at just leaving rupees if my wallet is full, because I'm always afraid that I'll completely forget about them.

That's a good idea, though!

Sounds like a great idea. Maybe when you return to the vault to get your money back you can use new items to get some more money in a Metroid-backtracking kinda way? I don't know. I like the concept though!

I Love games where you can Backtrack.

Like Hit-Blocks or locked doors you cannot pass in earlier stages of a quest you could not Unlock them all before you got the right item that they are all now un-lockable.

Lots of that stuff.'

Absolutely. It's one of my favorite parts of games. The Metroidvania genre is rich with this. It's even better when the door is fully open, but you just can't reach it. Locked doors are so much less interesting than you being unable to reach it.

Because that means suddenly you have a new ability that is useful nearly everywhere, rather than a key that's only useful in one or two doors.
