I've been a bit hesitant to create quests in recent years often due to feeling an inability to complete them. This is probably actually cause I don't know what the heck I'm doing. However I decided to get pretty far in making this quest before announcing it, and I've worked by a process of where you actually go in the game. (aka start in Brinstar, do a little Norfair, do a little Kraid, do a little more Norfair, go through like I was playing the game.)
With that said, I've started construction of Ridley's hideout. Norfair needs to have enemies added to it, and for flying bug enemies I'm considering just using Geegas (bugs that come out of pipes in Kraid's hideout) again instead of very similar enemies ( On that same note, I'm likely going to use Lv 2 sidehoppers instead of making the very similar desgeegas. Ridley's hideout has uniquely behaving enemies of its own to worry about after all.)
On the subject of enemies though, many of them (and one of the reasons I'm not too willing to make desgeegas and stuff) all have uniquities I've given them to set them apart from each other. For example when you defeat a Zeela (googly-eyed things similar to zoomers), it splits into eyes that fly around the room. Additionally, to simulate freezing, metroids are only weak to the ice beam (a late game upgrade) and beyond. on contact it splits a metroid into a single "frozen" metroid enemy (only weak to missiles). This enemy can tribble back into a normal metroid if left untouched. Clever eh?
I would have liked to see the ice beam as an earlier weapon, but items can't be configured to stun if they are above a certain power level. So instead, most enemies encountered before metroids will just go down in one hit of this anyways. Hence its status as a late game weapon, necessary to get far in Tourian.
I'm currently dealing with a virus right now and haven't had much chance to work on anything, but I can't wait to get back to it. (Don't worry! It's backed up!)
Also, if you look at some of the screenshots, you might notice a few that look... less than pretty. this is another thing I am doing to help carry me through construction. Rather than build pretty screens right away I just take a single solid combo associated with that room's appearance and run it all through like a skeleton. I'll go back and beautify them later.
