Version 3, of the title screen, is now complete, and integrated into Release 50 SR Z36-C.

v3s1.png

State One, the screen begins, with 'The Legacy of...', over a celestial image of Saeros.

v3s2.png

State Two, the 'Press Start' text flashes.

v3s3.png

State Three, the word 'Emperors', (i.e. the remainder of the title appears), and remains in place (fixed/static), while 'Press Start' continues to flash.

This was one huge pain to make, but I think that the result is worth the effort, and is at least passable, if imperfect.

This uses the passive subscreen, for full screen area graphics. There is a noticeable, but very minor graphical glitch, when the game starts, and the FFCs vanish, before the subscreen dissipates, whereby 'The Legacy of' is still visible, for about one second; which I can accept. I'm unsure if there is any way to time it to work around this, and it probably isn't worth the effort, even if it is possible.

That's how I did my title screen in Soulgazer's Requiem. I used the passive subscreen. :)

It wouldn't be so tedious if the passive subscreen was four-tiles tall. It's a non-standard height, at around 3.5 tiles, and the only way to achieve a 'full-screen' title is by using it. The end result wastes 8 pixels, or thereabout, on the top row, because you can;t pan the top edge of a tile block outside the sub-screen boundary. (Doing this causes it to vanish.) I think it came out well-enough, given my odd palette. I'd appreciate feedback on this design.

(Please load the game, and watch the animations, before critiquing it: The screen is animated in very specific ways, similar to old DOS games.)

I'd put the last line of the title toward the bottom so it's on his body rather than the top of his head, but that's just me. I like what's here other than that one little complaint, though.

That would, IMO, look hideous, unbalanced, and unprofessional. There is a decent delay, between the tart of the screen, and the word 'Emperors'. (Title screens on games in the late 1980s, and early 1990s has a similar aesthetic design.)

You should make 'emperors' smaller.
