I should have explained that the demo was made in 1.90 and will be converted to 2.50 to free up tile space and include at least one crucial script. I intend to made the graphics more realistic, which I think I have under control. I will need help learning to use 2.50. I will need help with music. I will need help with scripting. would you like to become a partner in this project?

I could help with you learning ZQuest 2.50 and with music. However, I don't know how to script. Tell me if you want me or not. I'd love to help!

if you would be willing to become a partner in this quest production, I would very much like you to join the project. you could start by playing through the demo, imagining it with more realistic graphics and more tile variation, deciding if it's a project you would like to put work into and then -- hopefully -- move on to writing a theme for the accessible screens and/or creating sound effects for the functions, enemies and environments. now that I am thinking about it, I suspect that the quest would be nicer without music and including a variety of screen-element-specific noises. the opening screen could have a song that ends when you leave it. the cliff edge screens could have light wind sounds. the ocean edge screens could have wave crashing noises timed to match the (currently terrible) wave patterns. the gleeok birds could squawk and chirp until they are dispatched. there is plenty of room for creativity in futher development. there are MANY elements of ZQuest that I have never worked with, as I've only ever used 1.90. play through the demo and let me know if I shall welcome you aboard.

welcome aboard, DaviAwesome!
I think we're still going to need a sound effects partner, at least, so the membership drive continues. holler if you are inclined to participate.

this is kind of what I'll be going for with this quest:

ZoraMan's screenshot
I plan to use actual pictures to create realistic screens. I've never ripped nor imported a single tile and I don't think I'm about to start, so I'll most likely draw everything. I have some images from which I'd like to work, but I still can't run ZQuest 2.50, so this whole project is on a temporary hold. ideas and planning are pretty much solid enough to drive the work once it becomes possible.

Wow that looks incredible! Really nice! It is hard for me to imagine a whole quest with such realistic screens but it would surely be an epic experience.
The quest is on hold because you can't run 2.50 ?
I mean, you can still make progress by drawing more of the tiles you need.

I guess I could. I have thought about doing that, but I figured drawing in 1.90 and saving copies with different pages of sprites (1.90 has only six sprite sheets) could lead to some confusion when it comes time to import (a thing I have never done). also, I'd like to be able to create screens while I draw so I know I am not just wasting time with stuff that wont work. I think the best solution is to continue to try to get 2.50 running. maybe this weekend I'll try to run it on the XP computer I've never used. I'd be pretty happy if I got it going....
