With this quest, it is quite imperative indeed to play using the correct version. I learned my lesson when I got stuck in a corner of a screen in Level 4 and couldn't get out using any means.
If you have more patience though, it really is a marvelous quest, especially later on when you start digging into all the little secrets of the world.

I started playing this a long while ago. I ended up postponing my play (I don't want to say "quit") when I was searching for level 2. I figured I had to go through the sewer to find it, but because I only have 4 hearts, I kept dying!!! Or I died after I got through; I'm not quite sure.
I'm not sure if I was completely off, or where level 2 even is.

When I originally tried it in 2008 I used 2.10 and got stuck in the same corner, lol. I wasn't even supposed to be in that level. Maybe I'll try again someday with an older version. As frustrating as it can be, it reminds me so much of a real NES game. They were really tough back then and often times there were no clues as to how to beat bosses or progress through an area. Something about it makes me think of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game for NES (not the one based on the arcade game). It was so hard but I kept at it because it was ninja turtles. (never beat it until emulator save states, and it was still near impossible, lol)

I had trouble finding it too. You have to go through the sewer to get to the area west of the city. Then there's a little fence maze you have to go through. I wish I had a little strategy guide like they would package with games in the 80's cuz they knew you'd get stuck.

Hmm... I beat level 2, but I never found the third block (red 5). I have an extra key, of course just prior to that I found another key behind the Skull Man statue which I used to enter a door in level 2. (I'm quite certain I got that key before. Not sure if Peteo made it possible to find another there after level 1.) Anyway, I guessed for the third number since I couldn't find it and beat the level.
Now, I'm searching for level 3. I remember some time ago that I was able to find a second way into the harbor and there was a grey rock blocking a sewer entrance, but I can't remember for the life of me where I went to find that!

Take the sewers on the western part of Megacity (inside the city).
You can save a lot of keycards in this quest. You don't need to open every door. They help a lot in L4 especially...
