While I am referring to you, it's only particularly for this SotW. But I feel like it's happened in plenty of other contests before. And to be fair, you have show-cased a lot of work that's been really good, so people will naturally hold a higher regard. And I happen to completely agree with you- critique is usually much nicer than compliments! Compliments can still be nice though c:

It seems that all anybody wants is a fair assessment of their screen--strengths and weaknesses alike. I try to mention both when I review a screen, but sometimes I really don't know how a screen can be better (or sometimes, how it can be worse XD).
Anyway, this week was a hard choice for me. All three shots had decent composition but didn't showcase particularly interesting settings. In the end, the simplicity of Bagel's shot won me over. It doesn't try to do too much. I suppose Ventus' didn't either, but I think the palette could be improved some.

I just wanted to remind people that this is a Screenshot of the Week topic about the three contestants who entered. This isn't really a place to start a big debate on whether people are voting based off of liking a member or not. So I'd like to ask that we get back on to talking about the three screenshots. Thanks. ![]()

In this case, I would encourage everyone to use generic subscreens to have them focus wholly on the screen.
Custom subscreens are one of the best new features of 2.5 though. Ruling them out as an option would be asinine, as it introduces a new element of design to ZC.
Ventus: I'm not sure what it is, but something isn't sitting right with me. I really like the palette, but I think the brown border around the water looks unnatural to me. Overall it's a nice overworld shot.
Dawnlight: Despite the debate going on, I do like this shot. It looks really natural (despite the enemies).
Bagel: I know this is just a screenshot from aLttP, but I really like it. Plus, ZC was original just a remake of Zelda I, so why not use it to remake other Zelda games?
It was a tough choice for me, but I'm gonna vote for Bagel this week.

I guess I did something wrong for entering into SotW huh?

Nah you didn't do anything wrong. Its just the way Screenshot of the week is.
its always filled with some sort of debate about something.

Well hey, I entered with something random I was working on just because I saw there were just two shots. I'm glad this event is still going at all after all these years, but I'm even more surprised to get any votes at all.

That's exactly how I entered. I don't know how people are under the impression that I entered expecting to get an easy win.

I entered just to do it, I didn't expect to get any votes at all, or win. (Which I'm glad I did get some votes!)
And Heck I think we all entered for the same reason odd huh? lol.

Honestly this wasn't one of the screen shot of the weeks that I enjoyed that much. Ventus's pallet looked off and the screen looked too blocky. Dawnlight's was definitely good but the pallet is REALLY strange. I would easily have voted for it if the pallet was adjusted. So I went for Bagel's which, even though it was a very good screen, still wasn't quite as good as we usually see in screenshot of the week. I really like its simplicity and pallet though.
Anyway,

Moosh, those demakes are awesome. I'd love to see those every week.
As for my vote, I went ahead and voted for Bagel's shot. Maybe it was the nostalgia, or maybe it is the idea that the Bari's actually work, as well as the pits. Ironically, Level 3 in AlttP was my least favorite level.

I think Level 3 is just about everyone's least favorite level in LttP. Making a similar dungeon is pretty hard, too. It's not really very unique, it just has ... multiple entrances I guess. Woohoo, exciting.
