Okay, anybody who's familiar with The GIMP knows that it runs in a GTK+ environment (or whatever the term is... I'm NOT computer savvy). It has some pretty smexy and free themes, and all the Windows skins I've seen cost $$$. Is there any way I can set up my desktop to run GTK+ without switching OS's or changing any other major settings?

Short answer: no.

The windows operating system does not use GTK+. You caninstall GTK+ and get programs (GIMP, X-chat ...) that use it, you can even theme them, but windows is windows and I don't know of any really free themes.

There are som freeware programs that change the look of your window title bars or desktop, there are a few projects - mostly unfinished - that aim to replace the windows desktop with their own, but I don't think there's anything comparing to a full GTK+ theme for free. Sorry.

What you can do is get your own desktop background, icons and cursors, turn off the "XP style" then you can set the colors and fonts of most window elements in the control panel, but it's not exactly what you wanted.
