Ok. 

In this Tutorial, (http://zcguides.cele...ls/main/ch03-02) the D Map section is confusing af?

If I start making another level, why don't I set the d map first, as the way it's done creates the Dungeon and then the Dmap, so doe they link together?

Literally no idea after reading this 10 times what is going on or why it is explained this way?

I make the map under the section of the Overworld Dmap and then assign the Dmap after I build the dungeon with a map created in the Overworld dmap, then assign another dmap to the dungeon I created in the overworld d map as a totally separate dmap?

 

Is it complex or counter intuitive?

I mean, you could. Nothing's stopping you from doing it this way.

 

Let's talk about what a DMap actually is. A DMap is basically a set of information that defines an area; if it helps, you can think of DMaps as "Areas" to help conceptualize them. You can make a bunch of screens in the editor, but a bunch of screens on their own don't define an area. The DMap tells the engine stuff like the palette, the music, the level number, the continue point, and the rules for the area.

I'm not entirely sure I understand here. You're saying you made a dungeon, then created a DMap for the overworld, then created a DMap for the dungeon?

Part 9 of that tutorial admits that Part 8 over-explains things, so don't feel bad about being confused.

The term "dmap" was coined in Phantom Menace's release notes.  Like Russ said, there is a definition in Etc->Help->Editor Help that says:

 

- DMaps (Dungeon Maps) define the 'dungeons' in the quest and their characteristics - their music, palette, subscreen map and such.
