I am making a NES-style quest and I don't want the Link to the Past death music when I die as it's really weird. How do I change it?

Do you mean that music that plays on Save/Continue/Retry screen? It`s hardcoded.

no, 2.53 has nothing really new from 2.50.2 other than fixes. Keep in mind that 2.53 quests need to be openable in 2.50.2 still. so new features CAN'T exist.
