Now don't get me wrong, the discussion of sexual content is perfectly natural and healthy and I approve of it all the way. But there's a time and place for most things, and I don't feel like forums with a young audience is the right place. How relevant is it to a PG forum?

A 'PG forum' where we're allowed to say fuck, mind you.

I don't necessarily think "You know what this forum needs? More tits!" But, using the 'PG forum' excuse is kinda moot considering you haven't been able to say fuck in a PG movie since the 80s. This forum did not cater to my dumb 11 year old mind when I first joined back in 2003, and I think I turned out better because of it.

The argument that "I'm okay with this therefore others should be" is more moot to be quite honest. Not everyone is going to be okay with everything and the whole ideal that everyone should not be offended is a wishful, perhaps even hypocritical thinking since these idealists are bound to have something that offends them in this world. Saying questionable words is one thing, unnecessarily going into details about things that borderline or pass the PG environment is another. Not everyone wants to hear people say they masturbated unless it's within appropriate thread or the mature discussion. We don't want unfortunate people bumping into this kind of stuff in a forum that's got users ranging from 11 and onwards.

Yeah, this thread is blocked on the school server for pornography XD

I really think there's something to just not having some topics out in the open. It's not censorship, it's just being courteous to others who may not be okay with some stuff. You've got to take others needs in mind.

This forum has never been PG or catered to children at all. But I think it's good to not post content which may scare away people (or their parents XD ).

In all honesty, we hide things to soften the blow of fear and other feelings. We effectively create soft people by living under a rock.

This sums up the whole thing, honestly.

I wouldn't say you should go out of your way to expose every possible thing to kids, but I wouldn't hide it from them either.  People are in their biggest learning phase when they're children, and what's the better opportunity to teach them right, wrong, and just general knowledge about human anatomy?

One thing I can't stand is when parents lie to their kid.  "Mommy, where do babies come from?"  "Storks, sweetie."  That's utterly ridiculous and completely unnecessary; why censor something as natural as reproduction?  Even if you were to sugarcoat the truth, at least it would still be the truth.  "When a mommy and daddy love each other very much, they make sweet love.  After nine months, we had you."

That's... not what I meant. Not at all in fact. Kids should learn their basic functions. But there's a difference between that and going into unnecessary detail. There's also the fact that there's nothing to learn from hearing "hi, i masturbate" other than it just being plain awkward and unnecessary. As I said three times now, it's not true censorship. It's a matter of common sense and courtesy. Does going into detail in a PG forum contribute? If it's in mature discussion or a sexuality thread or whatever, it's perfectly understandable. It's keeping certain things within a respectable boundary. Please read posts more carefully, I'm not repeating myself because people are misinterpreting me. I don't mind if you don't agree, but please try understanding my point of view.

Also a parent explaining their kid how the body work is different compared to a complete stranger on the internet how your body works. Also I do feel like the whole stork thing is like Santa, Easter Bunny, etc. It's just a little thing the kid believes in until he or she grows up and learns reality.

*hears about storks delivering babies*
*grabs gun*
*commits Sudoku*

Notice how I said Sudoku instead of suicide?
Because hearing that story actually lowered my intelligence.

Why lie to a child about where they came from? They can understand it, and if they don't, so what? Instead of hiding or lying about something to a child, you should tell the truth and the consequences that come with this truth. If I have kids (yes, if), I will let them play violent Video Games and tell them that it's wrong to do that stuff in real lie. If my kid gets bullied, I wouldn't tell him some bullshit lies about how ignoring it makes the problem go away, I'll tell them to beat the living shit out of the bully or to make fun of the bully. If my kid asked me if he could watch a horror movie, I would let him, and tell him the things that are fake or real, and that the things that are real are so unlikely that they will likely never happen to him, and they shouldn't be scared. God, it's that simple.

it would be if there weren't large systems of judgment, control, suggestion, pressure and influence trying hard to force their shames on anyone susceptible. the power of the status quo and conformity are strong in most cultures, the Commercial States included. "....but it's PG-13....you are vegans that don't vaccinate and my wife works at the state department of child protective services....my pastor said that the writers of a book said that a god said that teachings that go against the system are to be fought with fervor....show your children endless violence but don't allow them to hear a certain word undefined nor see a loving sexual act under any circumstances lest they gain any real knowledge or (com)passion...." mobs rule and the mobs are armed. be prepared for many fights because they will try to control your rights.

Screw the mobs. I will force my belief on them because I know it's the right one, and they can't do the same.

What is this talk of mobs? I don't think you understand America trudatman. Not as deeply as you think. The manipulation is much, much deeper.

We feel the discussion here has already run its course, and it's getting into a lot of side topics that don't directly relate. We're closing this one up.
