As I remember, in quests using the Pure Tileset, there's more than one under combo on certain screens. By the way, how do you set up more than one under combo on the screen?

Let's say you have some bushes, in this case, all of them the same one. You also have some tall grass. On the bushes, you would put flag 16 (or one of those secret flags). Then you would set the secret combo to what a chopped bush would look like. For the tall grass, set a normal undercombo.

Okay, I'll try that, thanks.

This method is useful as you can use flags 16-31, so that's how tall grass can work, so you can use all of the different cut tall grass tiles.

You can have undercombos in a layer now, by setting layer 2 &/Or 3 "as background" which makes those layers appear UNDER layer 0.

Regrowing bushes (such as those in the DoR set) take a couple more steps. On bushes you want to regrow after you cut them (on screens where you need multiple under combos), set the secret flag on the bush, set the secret combo, then right-click the tile, which will bring up the list of flags. Set the exact same secret flag on it. If you don't do that, then the bush'll grow back once, and if you cut it again, there'll be a black spot on the ground.

You guys do realize that there are slash>next and slash>next item combos now right?

Not to mention the super-handy ability to shift aside combos for the insertion of the implied new combos. Go to the combo page, position the cursor (And click on it..) where you want the combo page to slide to the right, and press i. To undo that, press Shift+i. Good stuff.

Man, I do keep forgetting about those new combos. icon_blah.gif

But that's only useful if the tileset is organized to support it. Anyway, I find that the flag method in the tutorial theryan linked to is VERY effective. You see, the problem with secret combos is that the Lens of Truth can be used to see under them, and when some grass is not Lensable and other grass is, it's just unprofessional.

Make the tileset support it.
Otherwise you waste all your secret combos, which there are too few of anyway, and that ends up limiting you when building your screens.

With your method if you have a screen full of cutable grass and some bushes then you can't do much else.

Moonwhisper, it's absolutely true. Freedom speaks the unexaggerated truth. Use the method I just suggested three or four posts ago to increase the space within your combo pages to allow for more combos to be placed between your combos to implement them.

WAYYYY too lazy to do that. icon_razz.gif

Anyway, with the push flags method that I heavily recommend, there are no secret combos involved.

My FAQ should indeed be useful. icon_smile.gif

However, Freedom is correct: squeezing out more under combos is not nearly as necessary as it used to be.

You've... got a point there. I've been using the "-> Next" combo types, but only on new combos so far... I guess it'd be useful to change the old ones, as well.

However, I have a question for anyone who can answer it:

What happens when you set up a bush combo (or any other tile that uses an under combo) in such a way that "forces" a specific under combo, but then change the combo type to "Bush->Next"? Does it favor the "forced" under combo? If so, does it ALWAYS favor it?

I can find this out by testing, but I figured it'd be significant enough that somebody out there has probably already discovered the answer, which could save me some time. Hey, it shouldn't be too much to ask; I already took the time to write an FAQ on the subject... icon_razz.gif

P.S. -

version 2.11 beta 15 lacks the combo types "Tall Grass->Next" and "Flowers->Next." Pity! I wonder if the later betas include (or will include) this. And no, I'm not going to upgrade to find out.
