Try making your shadows NOT use CSet 6. icon_blah.gif

EDIT: CSet 6 is Link's CSet. When you get a ring, it changes CSet 6. If your shadows are on CSet 6, then they'll change colors as well. Change CSets, and that won't happpen. icon_wink.gif

I did explain. (Unless you didn't catch my edit yet)

Okay, you know how Link changes colors when you get a ring? (His tunic, that is) That will happen to anything else that uses Link's CSet, which is CSet 6. If the shadows are colored for CSet 6, then, well, somebody screwed up. icon_unsettled.gif

And no, it wouldn't matter if you change from 2.10 to 2.10.2. icon_wink.gif

Okay, now I'm pretty sure you're just ignoring my advice to change it to a different CSet.

Answer me this: what tileset are you using?

Yeah, I was wondering where my post went! This is a totally different yet identical thread!

Shame on you newby for starting a new post exactly the same as your old one...

Anyway, let me give you a brief explanation of how ZC transparencies work.

You may notice in Zquest that the transparencies don't look "right", i.e. the colours aren't EXACTLY as they should be. This is because ZC doesn't have the kind of graphical power to accomplish that. Instead it searches the palette (take a screenshot and open it in a paint program that lets you view the colour palette... actually scratch that, you probably have no idea what I mean) for the CLOSEST colour to what you'd expect. Link's colours are a PART of the game palette, and so ZC will search cset 6 (Link's colours) as well to find the closest colour match, and reference that position when drawing that colour on the screen.

Now, "transparent" colours don't refresh their reference points when you pick up an item. When you pick up a blue ring Link's palette changes, but the transparent colour that references that green in Link's palette DOEN'T refresh itself. So it's still pointing to where the best colour match SHOULD be, but it doesn't know that you've changed the colour of that point since last time it looked there.

The solution?

Link's green is the CLOSEST colour to the inbetween colour values of your grass and your shadow. Open up the palette editor for that level, click on the green that is changing when you get the ring, and 3 numbers should appear at the bottom (RGB values). Write down these numbers. Then click on the colour that your shadow uses. Write down these numbers also. NOW, get your calculator and find the average between the numbers (add the first number of the green to the first number of the black and divide by two. Write it down. Add the second number of the green to the second number of the black, and so on). You should now have a set of three different numbers representing the midpoint of the green and the black. See if you can replace a SIMILAR dark green with this new colour somewhere in the level palette. If nothing comes close, try looking in csets 0-5, 7-11 for a similar colour. If there's any spare slots that you aren't using, or colours that you don't intend to use, PUT THE NEW COLOUR IN THAT SLOT.

Now, ZC should reference this new colour because it's CLOSER to the right value than Link's colour is.

EDIT: I don't think you understood the mechanics of the problem Satellite icon_razz.gif
