It's Screenshot of the Year 2023 time! The winner of the Blue Bracket will go on to face the other two Bracket winners in the Screenshot of the Year 2023 Grand Final.
All three Brackets have been decided by a line picker. This week's Bracket features the following competitors:
Anthus - SotM 192
You will probably need to find another way around, unless you can cool the metal off somehow.
Joelmacool - SotM 194
Crumble, crumble!
Joelmacool - SotM 199
huh

All three shots are a modern take on classic origins. Interesting! These three are really close in my mind. Not just because all of them incorporate lava.
I enjoy the unique lava graphics and different background layers Anthus incorporated into his shot. There's something especially appealing or nostalgic about the green speckled background in a way I can't quite place. Uh, what is Link stabbing at? Maybe he's just measuring the slope like a golfer does on the green with their club.
Joelmacool 194 shows a remarkable amount of detail while still making the scene easy enough to understand visually. (The gray tiles and their visual separation from the coral walls and red lava help a lot.) The use of mountain tiles as decayed walls is fascinating and fits quite well. I appreciate the shadow beneath the bridge and platforms to convey depth. You wouldn't easily be able to cast a shadow on something glowing in real life, but this isn't real life.
I could say many of the same positive things about Joelmacool 199. That said, for whatever reason, I like the composition of 194 just a bit better.
As I mentioned, this is a close call. If the foreground design were a bit more varied in Anthus's shot, I think I'd vote there; but as things are, I will vote for Joelmacool 194.
Great shots!

199 has the most interesting layout so I voted that, but 194 has the most interesting environment.
