The following image should show the point of this topic:

So I emailed Avast! and the next day there was a virus database update. All cleared up, but still funny.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. That's hilarious! "There's no reason to panic though."

Exactly. There's no reason to panic though, because....

FALSE POSITIVE!

Hehe. Lithium showed me something even worse once.

I think a firewall software of his asked him if he really wanted Internet Explorer to access the Internet. That gave me a good laugh.

Of course, that's not meant to offend IE users, just the concept was funny.

That was probably ZoneAlarm. It asks FIREFOX if it's supposed to access the internet, but you know, it's security, right? I mean, it's not a bad thing to feel secure.

That's just plain out too secure.

It reminds me of a Mac commercial where the PC guy kept getting asked if things should be permitted. icon_smile.gif

Edit: In fact, here it is:

I guess I'd rather see a false positive every now and then to know it actually checks for viruses, haha.

Thats not too secure, imagine if you will, a User who only has Internet Explorer installed, accidentally aquires a virus that masks itself as Firefox. If the virus scanner prompts the user about it, then the user can easily tell something is wrong since they don't have firefox, otherwise the virus would live without detection.

I would like to be told of anything that accesses the internet, by default.

Exactly right. I would rather have my be over protective, then under protective, that way I know it's working, instead of slacking off letting crap in to destroy my computer.

Heh, probably thought the X had something to do with porn. icon_heh.gif

Though I gotta say: The name "Avast!" is freakin' awesome for a virus protection service. icon_deformed.gif

Yeah, while browsing on some ROM sites using Firefox (?!) a trojan tried to inject itself onto my hard drive but Avast stopped it from wreaking havoc before it was allowed to run.

At least it's doing its job. icon_wink.gif

Funny, but at the same time, logical. I mean, look at how many browsers can get information from your Gmail account to automatically fill in fields in web forms.

If firefox wasn't such a trusted and well known browser, people might actually uninstall it for that.

The Internet keeps getting scarier icon_frown.gif

In 5 years, it'll be to the point where your computer can fill out forms saying when you usually shower, or go to sleep. D:
