When the player stands on a "Save point" type combo and presses "START", then the "Save" screen comes. No matter if the player saves or not, he/she gets back where he pressed "START", so you don't have to start over after a saving or accidentally pressing "START". Disable the continue screen for maximal effect.

However, I don't like it, because this way you can save only at save points, not anywhere... Saving anywhere is a more modern thing than save points. In fact, save points are the products of engine limitations. Look at Oddworld, for example. The first episode had save points, but the second had "save anywhere" feature! (And it was a TRUE "save anywhere", because you continued where you saved.)

They're useful for Metroid quests, though, that's for sure. A lot of RPGs use save points, but remakes of such RPGs allow for saving anywhere, and I've noticed that it's made them a hell of a lot easier (Dawn of Souls, for example). Aside from that, it's not so bad. I thought it worked well in Lost Legends. Thing is, for me, I'd like to do a style where you could save anywhere on the main overworld, but that you'd have to find a save point in special areas.

Yeah, I wouldn't say saving everywhere is definately better and save points are definately worse CC, I mean, if you could save wherever you like in Metroid Prime it'd break an awesome game.
