The Legend of Zelda: The Magic Instruments

Updates:
http://www.purezc.co...&...st&p=766487

Demo: The Magic Instruments - demo 1.0

Credits:
- Joe123 for the quest template (The Fort Knights)
- All the scripters in the forum
- Sepulcher for supporting my project & beta testing

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, this is my first quest project, even if it starts already ~ 2 years ago.
I wanted to bring back the atmosphere of the greatest video game I ever played:
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.

I wanted to add a wide set of scripts (yes, I really like scripting...), and I'm still adding a fixing a lot of them,
and so probably this is the reason why this project is taking so long icon_smile.gif

Anyway, here you have some screenshot:

Scripts, scripts and scripts!

It will be a short and not hard to play quest, with a single overworld, an underworld connecting the various parts of the overworkd and 4 dungeons + final Nightmare Castle.
The story is not so original, I have to say, but I still have to work on it,
and also the main core of the quest is not the story but the game-play.

To release the first demo (including level 1 and 2), I still need to:
- add owl's and the Ulrira's suggestions
- complete 2 level bosses and 1 mini-boss
- implement the mechanics for the first magic instrument to work (a teleporting one)

Link's equipment:
- sword
- shield (GB-style)
- bombs (Link can pick-up and throw them!)
- Roc's feather
- bow
- power bracelet
- Pegaso boots
- magnetic gloves
- hammer
- fire rod

Progress:
- Overworld: complete
- Dungeons: level 1 and level 2 complete
- Scripts: more or less completed (still to fix some issue and )
- Story: a little bit to work on...
- Enemies: still to add some nice advanced enemies and bosses

So, what exactly is it? It's not a LA remake, right? Is it an original game that emulates LA's engine and borrows from its story/characters/etc? It's looking pretty cool, though. =)

If this quest gets finished can you release a "template quest" of sorts that doesn't contain any screens, but has all the scripts for bosses, items, mine carts, whatever, so people can make quests with all of the GB Zelda features you will be adding? Personally I think these things should be implemented into ZC in the future, but that would be helpful until it happens. icon_biggrin.gif Hopes and Pleads icon_biggrin.gif

Anyway, this seems like a great idea. My favorite Zelda games happen to be the handheld ones. If this game will give me the feeling that I am playing Link's Awakening or the Oracle games, then I will most definitely play it. Keep up the nice work! icon_smile.gif

Looks quite interesting. My only suggestion is to make the status bar a dark colour, as the tan/cream is hard on the ol'peepers and doesn't contrast well with the field of action. It's nice to see some good examples of the flexibility that ZC now offers, and the bomb-tossing is a nice use of them.

Here you have some new screenshots of the quest.
The first demo is almost ready:
I completed the script clean up and now I just need to finalize a couple of details.

For people asking about it:
this is not a LA remake, but rather a kind of sequel,
or if you want a quest inspired by it.
I tried to reproduce both the mechanics and the atmosphere of that fantastic game,
mixing with some Oracle ingredients (mine cart, Gasha seeds...)

Zepinho, this is looking very nice! I'm a fan of GB quests, and yours is looking very nice! All your screens are looking awesome! About your subscreen, it looks great, but the font used for the rupees, keys, seeds/tears, and shells looks way out of place here. icon_frown.gif

I just noticed the old lady says "Wavy Beach" and not "Wave Beach", intentional?

Besides that, I'm really looking forward to this, everything looks so promising and official. Keep it up! icon_biggrin.gif

Hi guys,
finally my first demo is out!

I added a link to the main topic.

Many thanks to Sepulcher for beta-testing!

Any comment / suggestion / bug report is very welcome!

ps: the quest works with RC2 (I'm using linux build 1402).
I don't how it can look using more recent builds, but you can try icon_wink.gif
