This is floor 1 of level 9.

Binx
In the quiet town of Tremia, three young champions, a fighter, ranger and mage, prepare to compete for the honor of delivering a tribute to their king in a nearby castle.

Theryan
Damn I'm fly, I'm so high I might need a spaceship...

Nulled, as I'm in the contest:

bmc: That looks pretty nice :), interesting to see what kinds of puzzles you'll have, there.

Theryan: Crapbaskets. That's some impressive work there, love your use of the space tiles and waterfalls, and you made the Classic set sexy, too. (EDIT: Probably would have voted here, if I was voting, I'm man enough to admit when I've been outclassed)

Can't speak for them, but mine is the opening area to my current project "Champion of Eluriya"

1.  so curious about puzzles and enemies and items and fun....  I'd spruce up the tileset with a bunch of specific edits like making only the fire of the torches orange and giving the other offcolor tiles tones.  no way I want to play eight other dungeons to get here, nor n levels of floors for this ninth dungeon.  go fuck yourself.  I hate you.  I give it a 641.8.

2.  I love meticulous tilework.  this is great natural landscaping with a village appearance; the tree variety is great but the structures suggest that the villagers are going to have some retarded shit to say about stuff I'm supposed to care about for the next six hours of your quest.  you could use a hybrid angled-cliff-edge-and-grass-transition tile for the left side.  your game looks lame as hell and I want to play it.  get molested if you haven't already done so.  you earned every bit of this 630.2 rating.

3.  this looks fun and wonderful in all definitions.  I would have the waterfalls run consistently behind the scenes following a better set of rules and the shrubberies are very obviously desperate for some variation for better immersion allowances.  the caption helps me know that I'd love the vibe and atmosphere of this map.  I've always secretly wanted to be you, so I could kill myself and do the world a favor.  the award is 641.7.

bmc10011 - A pretty interesting map. Those puzzles definitely look like they could end up being really irritating and tedious to go through, but it's a cool idea. Good job.

Binx - This looks really cool. I really like the mountainous village setting. This is also a very interesting use of Koten that I haven't really seen before, so +1 for uniqueness. Either way, good job.

Theryan - This looks really beautiful. The classic usage here is superb. Also could this be a potential I Am Bored 2? :P (Voted here)

Voted for Binx because I like it the most, Reasons:

Binx:

  • I haven't seen such professional landscaping in a 2d game in awhile now
  • It kinda has a final fantasy / earthbound feel to it, to me at least

Bmc1011:

  • You're getting better bro, it looks pretty good to me. As a puzzle quest, it's defiently going to keep me busy. The last game I had trouble with in puzzles big time was Isle of Rebirth. You took it like 10 new levels.

Theryan:

  • I have no idea what's going here, is it supposed to be some kind of distortion world
  • It seems like it's in an concept or alpha state, doesn't seem worthy of being map of the month compared to the other two
  • Creativity is always good, I just don't understand what you're trying to do
  • It kinda seems like an island in the sky, I think it'll get better, I just don't think it's that good in it's current state

I considered making the waterfalls straight, but in the end I wanted it to appear as though the waterfalls are falling into caves behind the ground or that they've changed position by hitting certain rocks or whatever. As for the shrubs, I'm not sure whether you're referring to the bushes or to the 16x16 tree/shrubs, but I've been sticking to using 1 tree type per area. I might end up changing the tree style for this area, though.

I Am Two Bored, actually.

1. I guess so, it's a comedy quest so I really wasn't worried about obeying the laws of physics or reality here. Originally, I was thinking of having a purely space themed area, but I wasn't sure that would be easy to pull off graphically and functionally, so I decided to go with this "Space Mountain" idea instead.

2. I'm not sure what makes you think it's in an "alpha state." After all, the map is complete, detailed, and even playable. If it were just a concept I wouldn't have entered it.

3. I guess I was just trying to make a map for my quest :P I feel like you're maybe a little caught up on what the map is "supposed to be"; you're trying to make sense of something that, by design, doesn't make sense.

4. It's supposed to be a mountain sitting right on the edge of Earth and outer space. Again, this is a comedy quest, so I'm not concerned with the transition from field to mountain to space making any sense whatsoever. In fact, the harsh and sudden juxtaposition between space and the rest of the world is intentional.

You can turn the power off so that you can go on the arrows normal. But you can't go on the ramps when the power is off.

voted Binx because it is a refreshing change from the usual.  certainly seems very RPG like.

bmc, again this looks like a ripoff of IoR, but without Evan's execution skills.  IoR's version had the arrow paths become puzzles of their own, not just travel paths.  most of the paths here just look like A->B, more to confuse the player than provide a unique gameplay experience.

theryan, i like it.  certainly fresh and unique.  and great colours.  this was a close 2nd for me.
