In this game, the first poster starts with a numeric sequence that follows some pattern. The second player responds with the next number in the sequence and explains why that number makes sense. He or she then provides his or her own sequence for the following poster to solve. For example:

QUOTE(Player 1)
1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, ___
QUOTE(Player 2)
34, because each number is the sum of the two before it.

2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, ___
QUOTE(Player 3)
17, because these are the first prime numbers.

1, 3, 2, 6, 5, 15, 14, ___

You get the idea? I'll start with Player 3's sequence above.

1, 3, 2, 6, 5, 15, 14, ___

Good luck! icon_smile.gif

EDIT: If somebody posts a sequence that isn't solved in a reasonable time, the next poster is free to start a new one.

42, because the number is multiplied by 3, then 1 is subtracted from it.

1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, __

81, because these are square numbers (1*1 = 1, 2*2 = 4, 3*3 = 9, etc.)

3, 1, 4, 1, 5, 9, 2, ___

6, because these are the first numbers in Pi. (Boy, this was kind of tricky)

5, 2, 8, 5, 20, 17, __

68, because every other entry is four times the previous, while the rest are three less than the previous.

-243, because each number is being multiplied by -3.

216, because each is a cube of the counting numbers (i.e. 1^3, 2^3, 3^3, 4^3, etc.)

1, 2, 10, 11, 12, 20, 21, 22, ___

Add waffles and subtract boobs.... I'm bad at math...

Kidding, kidding. 30, because you're counting 2 numbers then adding.

1/6, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 5/6, 1_?

(I stole this because I'm still bad at math icon_heh.gif)

Just 1, because each member of the set is 1/3 greater than the previous, and expressed in simplest form. But if you meant what number was after that, then that would be the mixed number 1 1/3.

0, 1, 10, 11, 100, 101, ___

Because this is binary, and I'm a Computer Science major, so I've seen this a million times x3.

1, 16, 256, 4096, ?

Hmmm. Well, it seems to be "multiply the previous number by 16" meaning 65536 is next, but the pattern doesn't work all the way because 0*16 isn't 16... Let me know. EDIT: It's also not "raise 16 to the next power" because 16^0 = 1.

-8, -7, -5, -1, 7, 23, 55, ___

Oops, my mistake, it totally was supposed to be 16^y, I mistyped the first number.

You forgot to answer the sequence nicklegends came up with and you forgot to follow up with another new sequence. icon_neutral.gif
Anyway, 119, because the number being added to each number is repeatedly being doubled (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.)

4/7, 1 1/7, 1 5/7, 2 2/7, 2 6/7, 3 3/7, ____

19 1/2 (or 19.5), because 5 is added to the first number, then the next number is divided by 2.

1, 4, 2, 8, 6, 24, 22, __
