Ha, I live in Oregon too. I know what color trees are. icon_wink.gif And I was going for the golden trees in ocarina of time that you have to bomb to reveal a secret.

Evergreen in particular. icon_razz.gif But okay.

I would recommend making a copy of that tree and recoloring it using CSet 2 (I think?) in the DoR OW palette. Whatever CSet has the burnt oranges and rust-reds for primary and secondary color gradients.

That makes me hard to decide, because all of the maps are great. icon_biggrin.gif

But I voted for Gonken, because this is the first jungle, I saw in a loz-game. ^^

Gonken - 8/10
Love the design of everything. It is full of artistic integrity, and each screen transitions very smoothly. I love how stairs are replaced by vines. The only thing that bothers me is the more fertile green colors being mixed with the much more arid yellows and oranges. Screen transition is very smooth, since it is barely noticeable.

Hinsburg - 7/10
Yes, DoR is difficult, because like many women, it's complicated. It takes more of an effort to figure out. Most of the design looks decent. Nevertheless, I suggest not using so many types of trees. Simplify that aspect by using just one or two of the green types (the less exotic ones) for the majority of them. The few big trees can be the exception, especially the yellow one, since that tree is awesome looking by itself. Elevations are decent.

Purplemandown - 7/10
Your dungeon design is diabolical... I mean, well planned out. I like the usage of skeleton bones in a dungeon to give that sense of death and decay, but I get the feeling that it may be overdone here. Very good, otherwise.

ZebraStallion - 8/10
I won't comment on the right side much, since that is clearly still a work in progress. I love the ground details, and the tree usage too. See, sticking to shades of one color can still look very good, as it maintains regional consistency. I love the waterfall, the shape of the river, and at least the upper bridge. The transition from screen to screen flows very well, since it is barely noticeable.

Tie breaking vote was very difficult for me, but I went with ZebraStallion. While Gonken's seem to be the most creative and unique, ZebraStallion's screen wins on coloring, slightly on technical elements, and overall visual appeal for me.

Gonken - Great mountain, I'm not a huge fan of the palette though. It reminds me of the mountains from Chrono Trigger a bit. (3rd)

Hinsburg - Some parts of the mountains seem a little straight. The map seems a very open, but this is not always a bad thing. (2nd)

Purplemandown - Less big skeleton tiles, and more small bone tiles IMO. I like how it is symmetrical, but at the same time its not. I also like how you can study both sides of the dungeon and get a feel of how this place used to look before some sort of massacre happened. (1st)

ZebraStallion - Not a bad screen at all, but it's just not my favorite. It seems to generic. (4th)

Thanks for the comment guys, will try to fix the palette icon_smile.gif

It was one of my first self made palettes and I don't know if its my screen that made me think they looked good in the first place when i looked at them.

Well this is an old map, I've got lots of maps and this is one of the many I'm not using anymore but I might revive it someday.

Gonken wins this time around! Congrats Gonken!

Also, sorry for completely forgetting the new MotM system that I posted a while ago. From now on, I'll try to follow it more carefully.

To remind you all what this means:
Each MotM will only be posted when there is more than three maps submitted. When we reach the three maps, we will wait one week before posting the actual contest, to give others some extra time to submit theirs, should they want to do so (a reminder will be posted at the beginning of said week).

Once a MotM has been posted, we'll allow it to run for one week, like SotW before it's closed. This means that there won't really be one MotM each month, but for the sake of staying classy, we kept the original name icon_smile.gif
