I doubt WB would restore the entire database just for a hosted forum.

A restore was called for the other day since all forums were wiped out. However, quest forums are not that crucial when comparing them to the entire database. We constantly add and remove them also, so that is another reason they are not so important.

Basically, I refer back to advice given in Happyman's post above for those who have hosted forums:

If you want to protect the contents of your forum, have a secure password.

This goes for everybody, not just hosted forum owners. Don't forget that you have private messages, notes, and a profile that you don't want somebody messing with.

Backups are not generated every time a change occurs to the database. There's no way I'm restoring a day-old backup because somebody's insecure password led to the destruction of a hosted forum or private member data, as it would probably cause us to lose more recently added data than was lost in that destruction.

BOO!!! icon_thumbsdown.gif
Why did BH4 get demoted by a factor of two? Perhaps it would be reasonable to make him a regualr moderator.
I've lost a lot of postings, topics, urls, and thoughts by that attack.
But I'm not blaming BH4! He probably had that password since the beginning and nobody warned him. I think its unjust to punish BH4. However, if he did it again, even after having been warned again, then such punishment would be reasonable.
For Pete's sake, he's the 7th member here. I think he deserves some leeway for his mistake.
I'm sure he wouldn't do it again. We learn from our mistakes.
Give the dude another chance man. BH4 is da' bomb!
I do agree with WB about the password rule though.

... nobody warned him.

Care to tell me how you know? icon_sweat.gif

Our private moderator forum contained a pinned topic regarding passwords after a previous incident. That's an adequate notice. I already said that I don't treat BH4 like he's any less of a friend, but that's not exactly a very good mistake to make. icon_frown.gif
