Okay, so my father's got a modem and I've got a wireless connection.
Wireless connections suck. Mine goes in and out of service all the time, and it's really irritating.
But the most I've ever had to do to fix it would be to either a) unplug the wireless and plug it back in, or b) restart the computer.
However this time when I tried, it just didn't work. I have no connection at all, and have not had one for a day and a half now. I'm typing from my father's computer while he's at work, and I really don't think I'm supposed to be on it, but I digress.

So my question is to all of you: does anyone know why it suddenly went out? Or perhaps what I can do to get it started up again?
I thought about reinstalling the wireless software, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea.
This has all probably sounded a little vague, but if there's anything you need to ask first, do so and I'll answer it to the best of my ability.

We have had this problem at my house before. My sister is the one with the wireless connection. Sometimes she would just restart the computer, or unplug the wireless. The wireless was USB and sometimes we would plug it into a different USB port, it seems like it didn't want to work in certain ports as well for some reason. Also sometimes unplugging the modem and/or router fixed the problem. I also had to fix things in the wireless software settings before.

There's also a chance that the router could be defective. If such is the case, you'd have to buy a new one. =x

Happened to me a year or so ago.

Blaaah, I hope we don't need a new one. My father said that if it still wasn't working by the time he got home from work [which it still isn't] then he'll call the company and see what they say about it.

Still, I would have rather fixed it myself. Now I have to wait for someone else to come and do it.
Thanks though.

I have a similar problem upstairs. My dad and I both are using separate laptops, and he uses his downstairs right next to the router whereas I tend to use the laptop upstairs in my room. The connection would occasionally be lost, but I could right-click on the icon in the tray, and use the "Repair" function, which would try to reconnect. Don't suppose you have one of those? icon_unsettled.gif

I do, but it doesn't actually repair it very often.
Meaning, it rarely works. And without a connection, I don't have anything to repair.

But my father called our service providers last night [I think he was on the phone with them for at least two hours...] and they've done... something.
Apparently, now I'm connected, but when I go to Mozilla, the server isn't found.
So I try to repair the connection, but it says it's having trouble renewing the IP address.
I've given up. Someone's coming on Saturday to take a look at it. I guess I'll just have to live with it [or rather, without it] until then.
