So I know that at one point, you used to be able to use the lantern to exclusively surround link with a little circle of light, ala LTTP, rather than lighting the whole room. I've searched for a script to do it, but haven't found one. Does anything like this exist?

I don't know anything about scripting, but it sounds fairly simple... Perhaps you should ask in the scripting request forum where you will be more likely to get replies? (tries not to Rent-a-mod)

Joe recently released an "Inverse Circle" method to make situations like this easier.
So, I moved this over to Script Requests.

The only problem is that it looks really funky whilst you're scrolling screens =(

I wrote one of these a while back, but its probably horribly out of date by now. You can find it here: http://www.purezc.co...o...c=36686&hl=
Even lets you light torches. Its a little funky along the top edge, and screen transitions are ok, i think. It's pretty old though, and it could probably be re-written with newer code/functions, if it still even works at all. Try it out. If it works, yay, if not, it could be a good basis for an upgrade.

He's talking about the built in scrolling inbetween screens.

I still like the '22 triangles' approach, or even better: the four rectangles and a drawtile method instead of lots of lines.

Writing it with scanlines was easy to do, if you write a better one with triangles I'm happy to use that.

So before I test this, because it's for something very far off in the future for my game; would that script allow me to have the following work? I won't get to it for a very, very long time, but it's a fun idea.
- Hero will have the candle at this point, if he has equipped small ring of light, (24 pixels extended from the character sprite) if not equip, only 16.
- Hero later receives lantern, which as an item does nothing, but when equip it provides 42 pixels of visibility extended from the hero sprite.
- Have the "darkness area" cover an entire dmap?
- Have a few torch combos lit up on the screen that also provide light, besides the ones surrounding link. (Though would the tiles overlap or would they meld together?)
