They reflect or absorb magic beams. The ones that the magic rod or wizzrobes fire at you.

Mirrors change the direction magic goes in, prisms split up the beam into several ones, and sponges stop magic.

Magic Mirrors and Magic Prisms also reflect sword beams, but only if you check the rule "Magic Mirrors and Prism reflect sword beams".
And Magic Mirrors can reflect whistle whirlwinds if you check the rule "Magic Mirrors Reflect Whistle Whirlwinds".

They can be used against the Mirror Wizzrobes if you don't have a Mirror Shield.
