In ZC 2.5 Build 500, I was building a quest and at one point, it suddenly saved my progress, even though I didn't saved it myself.

Why does this happen?

A new tool in the fight against terror (quest corruptions)!

Go to the Help menu and Click Options. Click the 2 Tab and disable the Timed Save.

Yes, they are a pain, aren't they?

They're like save automatically without going to FILE>SAVE all the time?

Yes. Not only does it do the work of saving for you icon_deformed.gif, but it also prevents too much work from being lost should ZQuest crash or freeze (and the like).

Can I recover the file if Zquest crashes with the Timed Saves on?

Yes. I believe the autosave isn't actually saving your .QST file; it's saving it as a different kind of file that can still be opened by ZQuest as if it were a Quest, then I believe it converts the opened file into .QST format next regular save. It's just a precaution in case ZQuest desktops or BSoDs you. And yes, you can disable them.

Someone correct me if any of my info is faulty (towers).

You are correct sir. It saves them as .qt#, where the number is the timed save (you can set the "depth", if you will, of timed saves in the options menu). They can still be opened by ZQuest like .qst saves, but can't be played in ZC. In the case of corrupted data (header error, etc.) you can open up the last readable .qt# file and save that over your .qst. Really handy. icon_thumbsup.gif

I like 'em. They're annoying, but so is losing hours of work on your quest. So I set them to every 10 minutes. 5 is just too frequent for me.

Does it immediately interrupt what you're doing when a timed save occurs? That could be problematic while working in the combo or tile editor. How exactly does that work?

I think I'd rather lose 30 minutes work than deal with annoying interruptions every 10 minutes. I'd probably leave this feature off, unless it's not very intrusive, in which case I'd set it no more frequent than every 30 minutes.

All I can tell you is that the first time I got a Timed Save message, I picked up my desk chair and smashed it through my monitor... 'cause it's that annoying. icon_neutral.gif

Timesaves only happen when you're not actually editing something, i.e whilst in the combo editor, if you spend 11 minutes in said editor, the time save will not occur. It will occur as soon as you exit the editor.
