How do I make a chest (slash to open) with an item inside?
Here's what I'm doing...
1. Make a chest combo of type "Slash"
2. Put item on the chest
3. Give the chest the Armos->Item flag
But when I play the game, the item always appears on top of the chest!
What am I doing wrong?

Radien's first post in this topic tells you how to make a treasure chest. I know it's somewhere else, as well, but this is the only place I remember that tells you about it.
Just read the directions and make sure you're doing it right.

You have to set the room type to special item, and then make the special item the rupees/whatever. The regular item isn't affected by the Armos->Item flag.

Yeah, you're not supposed to use the Normal Item for treasure chests. Say you want the Arrow inside a chest. Make a chest with a Slash combo (NOT Slash->Item), set the undercombo to an open chest, set a Flag 10 (Armos->Item) on top of the chest, go to Room Type and set Special Item, and set the Special Item to Arrow. When Link "opens" the chest, the Arrow is inside.
Notes:
-You CANNOT set a Guy in this room or it'll mess everything up.
-Link always holds this item above his head.
-Don't use a Normal Item in the same room as a Special Item or, when you get one, the other will be gone for good.

Also... if you're using the newer 2.11 betas, there's a combo type called "Treasure Chest". Instead of slashing, you just push on the south side and you get the item, and the treasure chest undercombo is permanent. It looks much better than the regular slash chests.

You can make a treasure chest that uses the room's item rather than special item if you want though, with the help of layer 3 and a couple of flags. If you want to put a treasure chest in the same room as a string that is.

(to Joe123) Nada. Remember, if you get the Special Item in a room with a Normal Item, the normal one disappears forever, and vice versa. So this would not work.

To add to this, it's ok to set your Treasure Chest to the Slash -> Item combo if you want chests that give you hearts and green rupees, like the bushes in the overworld. Having a chest be Slash -> Item doesn't alter the Special Item in any sort of way.

I'm assuming Nada means no?
Well, it doesn't work if you want to have both the special item given away by the guy in the room, and the item in a chest, but if you read my post again I didn't say that, just the item in the chest
