Somebody set up us the bomb? This is worse than "Frog blast the vent core" for all you Marathon junkies. I knew that the game had bed translation, but I assumed that "All you base are belong to us" was the only truly bad thing... ah, but I digress.

I'm sorry I don't mean to sound like I'm flaming, but I heard this so many years ago. These topics just seem way too mainstream and repeatative, and they're way too basic and uninterresting to me.

Then again alot of stuff is growing boring to me.

I saw it even before the digital voice clips came into circulation. Here's how it went:

- A site dedicated to video game screenshot animations posted the Zerowing intro animation as its "best saved for last" item (the archive was alphabetical). It was pretty popular to begin with, for obvious reasons.
- The guy who runs Overclocked (and more recently, Overclocked Remix) mused about what the game would be like with voice acting, and used a computer voice generator to create a sample of the intro, obviously as a joke.
- Someone did a remix of the Zerowing intro music which incorporated the voice clips, titled "Invasion of the Gabber Robots."
- A video game forum started a topic for creating photoshopped images with an "All Your Base" theme. One person churned out about 70% of them.
- Inevitably, someone combined the song and the images into a music video flash animation.
- The screenshot archive that originally posted the Zerowing animation begged fans to let it rest, stating "Zerowing never saw it coming."

So yeah... that's how a joke is born, runs the course of its life, and dies. Except in the case of Zerowing, it became a zombie joke, doomed to roam the internet for the remainder of its afterlife....

It was definitely funny, straight through the music video, but it's been parodied and passed around too many times. These days I avoid making Zerowing references unless they're very brief and totally called for.
