THE ISLANDS OF ZELDA

This is a neat little Classic-Style ZC Quest made by Lightwulf. In my opinion, making a Zelda game that has islands and not a stupid method of going between them is an accomplishment in itself.

Sorry for annoying or boring you with such a long intro. :sorry:  I'll definitely be posting a warning about its length on the database entry when I update it next.

I'm a storyteller, so I wanted to show how the background of this quest intertwines with the stories of Zelda 1 and 2.  I also made special sprites for the Zelda 2 cutscenes because Zelda 2's sprites are mostly all 2x1 tiles (tall x wide); I created 1x1 versions of those tiles.  I also worked hard at making those Link animations toward the end of the intro.  So, sorry if it bugged you.

Just a few tips:

  • When there's a Stalfos 2, there's only one of them, but he's usually hidden amongst a swarm of Stalfos 1's.  You have to hope to identify the one before it shoots you!  You'll see it halt and then fire, so steer clear of its path.
  • As you might have noticed, where you can bomb a dungeon wall, there are a few unusual pixels on the border.  (This applies not only to level 1, but to the other dungeons as well.)  Look for those to see where to bomb; you'll find a passageway that saves you time.
  • Also, pay attention to the rooms that the bomb item appears in upon beating all the enemies.  Those are usually the rooms where you can bomb open a passageway! -Hint hint- ;)

Good job, so far! :) Sorry about that last Stalfos 2 that killed you.  That's a difficult room to get through.  If you follow my advice, you'll find another way around it.

Episode 2 - Facepalm

We finish level 1 and have some painfully stupid moments in level 2.

I guess you figured out what to do to the Goriya statue (if not, let me know).  If it were me playing this, I'd keep the boomerang in my B-slot anyway to use against the enemies, but that's just me.

Here are some more tips:

  • In most levels, you'll see a boss lock block and warps on the entrance screen.  Those are handy continue points that you can use once you get far enough in the level (far enough to get the boss key, of course).  Don't be afraid of the warps!  I've placed one in each direction, so you can always go back if you change your mind (or can't proceed on the other screen yet).
  • You ever hear the tip that "there's a secret in the eye"?  That's true in a bunch of levels in this quest (including level 1).  Ironically, that is not exactly true in level 2, "The Face".  The two "eyes" on the map are not accessible; however, three of the four black rooms that make up the mouth are accessible. (The one that isn't is the one furthest to the right.) Look for a way into them for some extras!
    Further Hint on this:
  • Here's one I've said before: If you finish a level and haven't visited all the rooms on the map, there may be another entrance.  You can find a man in level 2 that gives you a hint about this.
  • Oh, and one more thing I wanted to mention last time but forgot:  Some items found in dungeons (like the heart piece in level 1) are only accessible after you obtain items later in the game.  (However, this doesn't apply to maps, compasses or boss keys; you can find one of each in each dungeon before beating the dungeon.)

Good luck on your next episode! :)  I hope my hints are helping.

I can see why you hate Wallmasters!  So sorry 'bout that!

Unfortunately, I can't make the candle work in the doorway.  Sorry.  In the 2.50 version, that will be different; I'll promise you that.

I have no clue why the enemies in the maze-path room keep respawning every time!  They didn't in 2.10, if I remember correctly...

Okay, here's something you need to know:  I put Info Shops in my game for a good reason.  If you had talked to the info shop lady, she would have told you the correct maze path to begin with.  I guess it's a good thing I made it

Spoiler

Here's some tips for what's ahead:

  • In the last room you were at, you went around the left side of some center blocks above the south door before you got captured.  Next time, go the same overall way but go around the right side of those center blocks.  If you do that, the Wallmaster should spawn further away to the right, allowing you to get in the door untouched.
  • It would be a good idea to use the boss key, when you get it, to unlock the shortcut warp at the entrance.  I don't think you want to keep going through the rooms with Wallmasters all over again!  Then again, level 2 not only has the shortcut warp, but there's also a shortcut route that was blocked by the boss lock block that you found in episode 2.  Both ways are there to alleviate the frustration of having to go around the long way.
  • As I mentioned before, there is a man in level 2 that gives you a secret on how to find the back entrance of level 2.  There is a handy item you can get there.  When following his hint, start from Egalos Island.
  • I forgot to add a hint on the database entry: "Most boss rooms contain secrets."  You can't access the secret in the level 2 boss's room yet, but keep in mind what you see there for future.  You can, however, get the secret in the level 1 boss's room, which actually may help with beating the level 2 boss.
  • If you go back to level 1, you can either use the shortcut warp to get to the top of the map quickly, or you can do this:
    Here's a shortcut:
  • Also, if you're going back to Egalos Island, I thought I'd mention what the Info Shop guy tells you about the island (since the clue is cheap): there's either a secret or an item on every screen that makes up Egalos Island.  You found 20 rupees under a bush, the hidden Learn Slash cave, and the hidden Info Shop, but those are on just 3 of the 9 screens with secrets.  The starting beach screen has a secret you can't get until you have the Power Bracelet, and you may not get the secret on the screen with the potion shop until later in the game, but other than those, you have the items needed for the other secrets.  The item... that you said you like to use a lot. ;)  Just look for peculiar combo placement as hints.
  • Oh, and one more thing, once you've beaten level 2 and are on Forest Island, make sure you talk to the Forest Island Info Shop lady.  She holds the hint for finding level 3.  (BTW, I think the most expensive hint she has might be a waste of money as it may be a no-brainer, so don't but the most expensive hint from this info shop lady.  I forget which hint is the one you want, since I'm at school right now, but it's one of the lesser-expensive hints.)

Good luck with beating level 2!   :)

Good job beating level 2!  I hope you noticed what "decoration" was in the boss room. ;)  It'll make sense later in the game.

(And good job letting those wallmasters have it! :)  'Atta way to show 'em!)

Judy Garland?   Funny!

I don't know about you, but I like it when enemies are trapped and I can get them easily. :naughty:  That's why I enabled the rule(s) for that ("enemy traps" I think it was? I can't remember).

***BTW, to get through fences, slash the fence door.  Sorry if that's not obvious.  The sword is the main interactive item in this quest because version 2.10 does not allow you to use buttons other than A and B.  Not sure if you noticed, but you used your sword to open the door to the info shop on Facade Island (the level 2 island) back in episode 3, I believe it was.

 - The first house you come to is the info shop lady.  She'll give you a hint on what item to use to get to level 3 (but I've included it in a spoiler tag below in case it's not clear).

 - The second house is a Merchant's house.

Comments about Forest Island:

 - That heart piece at the bottom of the island... it just so happens that was the one that the most expensive info shop tip talks about.

BUT, if you REALLY wanna' know:
Now, about the other heart piece you saw, if you look you'll see some stairs hidden beneath the top of a tree; you have to find a way from inside level 3 to get out there.

 - Where to go next?  You were standing on the correct screen when you ended the video!  Find a way to go north from there.

In case you can't figure it out:

Level 3 Tips (without major spoilers):

  • The main items you got from level 2 were the Bow and the Wooden Arrow.  You may not have used them much in level 2; where do you think you need to use them? (-hint hint-) ;)  (And no, you got the Blue Candle from level 1, along with the raft, wooden. boomerang, and bombs.  ... And yes, I know you also got the Magic Boomerang in level 2, but that's an optional item, unlike the bow & arrow.)
  • In some rooms in level 3, there are statues with eyes.  Pay attention to whether the eyes look up or down.
  • There are rooms in level 3 that have slashable grass or bushes.  If something unusual appears underneath them, pay attention to what they look like.
  • Pay attention to different-colored trees.
  • Since there is no "eye" on the map, there may be something in one of the black "squares" on the map that stick out or one of the corners of the map.  (Okay, so there is something, but I'll let you figure out which ones.)
  • There's an item found in level 3 that you won't want to miss if you like using potion shops!

That's it for now.  Good luck in level 3!  :)

Good job so far!  You figured out what the flashing arrows in that one room are for! :)  (They actually show where to bomb, though, not walk-through.)  Others didn't figure it out, probably because they didn't notice that it looked like the dungeon map.

By the way, about the bombs not killing that darknut, it seems that that happens about half of the time I use bombs against them.  I'm not sure why; possibly because it reads the impact on the protected side of the shield.    It works some of the time, though; mostly when they're not facing the direction of the bomb...

  • BTW, there's an easy way to beat the darknuts in the room that you died in: stand on one of the stairways!  I've made it so that they can't walk on those, so you can safely stand there and whoop their butts without getting hit. ;)  (Also, FYI, don't bypass them; they'll drop an item you need.)
  • Also, you might want to try using a certain item on the red trees. (-hint hint-)
  • In that "death room", you may not have noticed the eye statues.  If you'd used the arrows on one of them, the blocks would've moved, making passage easier. (However, at this point in the level you won't need to go back there, unless you want to see the room with the map on the floor again.)
  • Up ahead, in a room that has four statues, you have to shoot one of them (the one that looks different) to allow you to access a pushblock.
  • There is an important room further up ahead that holds a very important item that is guarded by red darknuts, so be prepared to face more of them!  (You can find the letter before that, though, so you can get a potion if you need to back at Egalos Island after finding the letter.)

I hope that the darknuts don't give you as much trouble next time.  I do remember red darknuts gave me trouble back when I was playing the original Zelda game and had to beat them in level 3 or something.  It just takes practice.  One trick I learned is to swing your sword while facing 90 degrees away from them; that bypasses their shield block.
