Hey guys,
Having trouble locating the shrine for the Great Palace. The game said it was in S 084. I've dug around this area, but reached some dead ends and Ganon's Castle. Can you give me some advice?

Ok, I'm sorry for the double post, but I'm stuck again.
I'm in the final dungeon, and I'm in an area where there's lava and you have to use the spinner to get across. It looks as though you are supposed to jump from one spinner track to the other, and then jump from the top track, up past the next screen where there is a small ledge. However, I cannot seem to master the jump, and have only made it up there twice on accident. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong, as this is very frustrating. Every time I jump with the spinner, and then try to double jump to the ledge, I simply float down.
Also, past here where you use the rope, proves to be my undoing.

Well, I was trying to avoid triple posting. But since no one has made a response to this thread in over a month I'm guessing it will be ok. I recently finished this quest and I wanted to put my two cents in...
It took me a while, a little over two years, but hey I got there. I don't know if you remember my earlier posts back in 2017, but I had started playing the game, and got pretty far into it, and then my computer's hard drive bit the dust. I lost all my files, including the Zelda Classic games. All the progress I had made with this game went down the drain and I did not have a backup. I intended to play it again, but just never got around to it. Partially because I felt really disgusted with losing the game and not having a backup. Anyhow, a few weeks ago, I started playing the game again from the beginning and crossed the finish line.
Let's start with what I did not like:
Honestly, there isn't much I have to complain about. But if there was one thing, it was that this game could feel tedious at times. For example, having to go to the menu, select the cane, place a block, then jump onto it, then go through the menu again and find the ladder, then place it, and then jump while hoping that might get you to where you need to go. It might not sound that bad, but after a while, it gets kind of old.
There was also a spot in Militron's dungeon where you had to use the flute to call the whirlwind to carry you across the room. However, the tiles set out of the floor were hard to make sense of. There was also a place in the same dungeon where the rooms had two layers that could be confusing at times.
The final dungeon had a spot where you had to use the spinner and do some cracker jack jumping, as well as use the rope.
I don't know, maybe I'm just not that good at the game, but it had its parts where it had me begging for mercy, lol. There were definitely some parts of the game that I found what you might call “old Nintendo hard”. I've heard people say Zelda 2 is a hard game. But this game was a step up in difficulty from Zelda 2, IMO. If back in the day Nintendo's goal was to make each new Zelda title harder than the last, then I'd say “Panoply of Calatia” hit the nail on the head.
Please don't take my remarks the wrong way. There's things about every game I play that I don't like or think could be better, even my all time favorites.
For what I did like:
Let me just say: WOW! Obviously, a lot of time and effort was put into this gem. It shows. When I was a kid I immediately fell in love with the original “Legend of Zelda”. When its sequel, “The Adventure of Link” came out, I found myself one of the few people who liked it, despite it being considered by many to be the black sheep of the franchise. I did not consider it as good as its predecessor, but I was intrigued by its darker tone. Here we had a story that spoke of Zelda being betrayed by her own brother, and Ganon's minions wanting to use Link's blood in a sacrifice. I'll always remember those pictures from the instruction booklet that helped illustrate the tale, particularly the one of Link walking away from the Castle with bleak looking sky above him.
Like the first game, I eventually beat Zelda 2, and eagerly awaited for another sequel. This was a few years before Super Nintendo was even announced. In my childhood I imagined what the next installment would be like, in 8-bit terms of course. For a while, I feared I might not get my wish, as my friends and I feared that a new and more powerful system on the market (Turbo Grafx 16) might put Nintendo out of business. I'm sorry, but “Splatterhouse” just did not appeal to me the same way Zelda did. I was glad I had nothing to worry about. Eventually, SNES was released on the market, and not long afterwards, so too was “A Link to the Past”.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking “A Link to the Past”. I love that game, even to this day. But I will say that “Panoply of Calatia” is more in line with what my younger self imagined a “Zelda 3” would look like. Indeed, I even thought of being able to play as other characters besides Link, kind of like how in “Super Mario Bros 2” you could play as 4 different characters. Your game addressed that wish.
This game expands on the world that the 8-bit Hyrule is set in, by adding yet another area to explore, but it still allows you to return to the previous setting, just as Zelda 2 technically did. It was really neat to go back to Link's old stomping grounds and dungeons, as well as fight the 2.0 versions of some of his old enemies. I also love the mini-games scattered throughout the land. The game play mechanics are impressive, and it shows that a lot of effort went into designing this game. Heck, you even went to far as to make an old school Nintendo style instruction booklet for the thing!
That being said, I'd like to give a big thank you to everyone who was involved in making this game. Even though “Panoply of Calatia” is not an official Nintendo product, I consider it the third act of a trilogy, and will keep it in my collection. It keeps with the apparent and perhaps unplanned trend in the old 8-bit Nintendo games such as Super Mario Bros and Castlevania, where you had the original, followed up by a strikingly different sequel, and then an even grander third part. It has added to (and I'm assuming concluded at least in the 8-bit sense) the story of that Zelda world I knew during my childhood.

This is still for ZC 2.50.2 right? I downloaded that specific version but am noticing a good amount of bugs throughout.
It looks like the Water Mail randomly doesn't let you through water without removing and putting it back on. Not sure what causes it. I haven't gotten back to that room yet but I imagine that was the problem.
It is designed for 2.50.2 (I think it also works in 2.53 but I haven't thoroughly tested it to be certain).
The water mail has a bug, which I should probably release an update to fix, where it changes the water solidty when you put it on. if you then save quit and continue, you'll still be wearing the water mail, but the water will be solid, and you have to remove it and put it back on for it to work. Sorry about that!
And yes the quest is quite a bit buggy, sorry. I'm not the best scripter and I was even worse when I started making this a few years ago.
There's one thing I am missing, however. One very small detail at the very end. Since I have cleared the quest, I'm fine with being spoiled about it.
What you do is
I figured I'd replay this quest again to help me with my headcanon timeline stuff. I might have to shuffle this back a couple more years since there's things I want to squeeze in between this and Zelda II, but I digress. Always a joy to play this one.
If it helps any, I roughly envisioned this quest taking place two years after zelda II, but you're free to come up with other inrepretations if something else makes more sense. : )

No, but it is in the Panoply of Calatia Support Pack (the file that contained all the enhanced music). It's called ZIIelevator.z, and it's kinda janky. All scripts are available and free to be used (as are any concepts or graphics in the quest- which is unpassworded), but beware the incompetence of these scripts.

That also sounds familiar- in earlier versions, if you had used the double jump, it wouldn't reset once you were on the spinner. In newer versions, it does, so I'm hoping this one is fixed. Sorry about that too though!

If I do another quest of this scope I'd like to do a scripted subscreen where A, B, and every EX button can be set to an item, to alleviate this kind of stuff. But that was a bit beyond my skill at the time unfortunately.

Yeah, the hitbox of the whirlwind and the blocks was really janky. Unfortunately I was using a vanilla ZC mechanic (block all blocks stop whirlwinds and release Link), so I couldn't figure out a good way to change it. I tried to make the room a little more color-coded in updates, but, it only helps so much. There's a reason I never used that puzzle mechanic again in the rest of the quest.

Actually, I'm flattered, thank you! This quest was much more about ideas than really perfectly executed or balanced, and it was definitely a learn-as-I-went experience to make, so I'm glad when people enjoy it and I completely understand the parts they don't. XD

seems I didn't really get into your logic how to solve puzzles so far
In Yamauchi I'm stuck in the room with the boss-lock. Got the item behind it but how do I cross that water to continue to the small lock???
And in Yokoi I cannot figure out how to damage the boss (the thing with the barking ball - or what ever...)
In both palaces I found all 3 items and the boss key.
Any hint is appreciated

I had Zelda over where I marked red but got so frustrated trying to get the blue darknut to move left/right with the wand mechanic that I acceidentally hookshotted her with Link back over to me. From the FAQ, I'm supposed to some how move him, but the Darknut only moves up and down.

you want to activate the armos with the character on the left; that way when you switch characters it'll move towards the character you're controlling.
