Ah, plith recognizes the true focal point of my screenshot. Yes... the gold color of the tree clearly implies that a ninja is hiding behind it, leading the scene to an assassination attempt on the Deku Sprout.

...
Ninja?

WHY did I vote for Lonemind? WHYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!

BTW, the guy in IaN's portrait looks a LOT like me. icon_freak.gif

Oh well, looks like I'm not going to win. I just submitted in for the heck of it, and advertise as well. icon_razz.gif

But, I can see why I'm not winning this. Both Lonemind and Radien have excellent shots. icon_smile.gif

but some of those Gameboy NPCs look out of place amongst this kind of scenery.

I can't draw sprites worth a rupee fragment. I wasn't actually gonna use those in my quest. I thought they'd look good in my screenshot though. I agree, they don't quite fit. I want to use the balloons though. Think if I take the outlines off, they'd look better? icon_razz.gif

Great pic overall, but then I remembered that that background was already made and submitted here as Seiken Densetsu tileset.
*gasps* Lost points for originality?! I... I... okay, fine. But I want it to be known I ripped all the tiles from the game myself. icon_biggrin.gif It's a task!! I'll use a different world set in my next shot. This set just happens to have the most color.

Everyone should be proud of their entries this week.

Radien: Wonderful custom tiles and detail. Got my vote.
LinkTheMaster: That wall style is getting more popular. Good job. The only flaw I find is that the ceiling tile on the bottom left and bottom right are right next to floors, which doesn't make much sense to me.
IaN: Very close second after Radien's. You do have some translucency issues, and the text is hard to see with everything else. And while I don't dislike them, I'm not too great a fan of the Minish Cap tiles... oh well, that's just a personal opinion I guess.
Lonemind: Very well done with the SD3 background and all the other sprites... except for one thing. The SD3 tiles have no "black outlines" (hope you know what I mean, if not, I can try to clarify). Your sprites do. Thus, they clash. This is something you really wouldn't want in a quest.

Si, si. I know exactly what you mean. I read your TotW post too. I'd LIKE to make my own sprites for this set. I'm just not good at spriting. icon_razz.gif I'm working on what I CAN do at this point.

LTM:

Don't beat yourself over your shot; it's actually pretty nice and 5 votes is nothing to sneeze at. (I should know. It's cold season.)

Actually, I'm going to argue that the black outlines are fine. Making sprites without outlines would quickly become very difficult if you're not used to sprite editing. As long as the sprites are consistent with eachother, they'll look good.

As for the baloons, I think they'd be fine if you worked in another shade of each respective color. Actually, y'know what'd be good to look at for an example? Chrono Trigger. The Millenial Fair has balloons, and the graphics style is fairly close to SD3's! icon_smile.gif

If you still think they need more detail and less outline, you might try for a softer outline, like one of the darker non-black colors in whatever CSet you're using.

Considering how horrendously sloppy the SD3 set is, and the fact that you hadn't complained about it yet, I had a hunch you were ripping from scratch. icon_wink.gif I've done that myself, actually... ripping stuff directly from LTTP to avoid flaws picked up during conversions between many tilesets and ZC versions.

Anyway, I recommend that you take one of your FF-style sprites, place it beside a Zelda sprite you want to alter, and attempt to imitate the details which make it FF-ish whilst removing the more cartoony Zelda-ish bits. It's worked well for me.

Oooh. That sounds like an excellent place to start. Why didn't I think of that before? That's kinda what I did to make my main character. I used Ark from Terranigma.

I went ahead and removed the outlines from the balloons. They look a whole lot better, actually.

I'd love to, really. I wanna work with three to four colors on them but SD3 uses a LOT of CSets. I'd have to make a lot of DMaps and get real tricky with my warping abilities to pull off some simple color changes.

Ah, I don't have time to comment right now. I will tomorrow. I can tell you now though. I voted for Radien. The screen just looks great. The only thing that really catches my eye is the blank spots.. Where no flowers are at.. Just grass in some spots.. It really is odd.. icon_confused.gif To tell the truth, the screens were all good this week. Great job, guys. Maybe I'll be in the next one, hopefully.. icon_razz.gif

Screenshot of the week 75 is over with Radien as our winner. Congratulations. You sure are moving up in the ranks.

Screenshot of the week 76 will start tomorrow morning. So if you want to enter please get me your screenshot before then. Just a quick note, SotM is after SotW 76.

Thanks Prince. icon_smile.gif Everybody did well this time around, though, as the voting shows. icon_thumbsup.gif

Lonemind:

Short on colors? Well, I was thinking you might want to use sprite colors for the balloons, anyway. Are there any good CSets to choose from in the Main Palette?

SD3 surely uses gads of colors. FF5 pales in comparison, and yet I've seen its palettes and it is icon_eek.gif.

I only have two entries as of right now. I'm going to delay SotW 76 until sometime this afternoon. If I still only have two even then, two entries it will be for SotW 76.
