It is fairly linear, but not as much as Tourian, nor as short. Basically it is a long path reminding you of everything you can't do without the last unknown items. Oh, you still have the rest of your suit (again, Super Zero Mission-based), but it still can't help that much until it is fully powered.
The Pirate Mothership remains totally untouched. I'm not even sure there's any good tiles in here for it, aside from maybe Ceres.

I'd recommend the Lunar Whale tiles from FF4. There may not be all the ones you need (like concave corners) but I think they will work as spaceship tiles.

Those are pretty, but I don't see how they're going to help when they're top-down.
Ceres might work just fine, understand. I just haven't done anything yet.
