The basic idea is to make it so that Link falls behind Layer 1 (so that I can make him appear under transparent DoR/Pure water)... with a little bubble combo just above Link's head so that it appears he is breathing.

If possible, can he have a bit of health drop at certain time intervals so that it simulates "drowning" using the boots?

Oh, and if he can't fall behind Layer 1 or Layer 2, can we raise those layers to layer 5 and 6 until Link leaves the water? That would be more "plausible" in my opinion.

You want the iron boots to be a selectable item right? (As in, choosing the iron boots and pressing the corresponding button will equip them on and off of Link.) Well, there are two main ways this can be done. The first way is to have a item script attached to the iron boots that warps Link to an identical screen where the water has risen to layers 5/6. The bubble effect could be pretty easily simulated with an ffc script that has the ffc follow Link around. The second way (and a little more difficult to script way) is to use an ffc script to store the original layers 5 and 6 into arrays, and then draw layers 1 and 2 on layers 5 and 6, while drawing invisible combos on layers 1 and 2. The health drop should be pretty easy to simulate as well. If either of these ways sound good to you, I might script it when I have some free time (which is steadily decreasing) and get bored. But if someone else wants to have a shot at it, go right ahead.
