I loved Firefox 16 through 18 were fantastic, while 19 through 23 were passable, but v24 was somewhat awful, and newer versions are plain rubbish. For OSX, I use TenFourFox v17.0.2, as later versiosn forbit Flash plug-ins, and I do not need a web browser to determine if I know how to safely navigate the Internet.
TenFoutFox is an OSX build of FireFox, that runs on both Intel, and PPC builds of Tiger, and Leopard. I never went past Leopard, as I've no need, and the majority of OSX programmes that I use are still PPC (run natively, or through Rosetta).
I did like Safari, once upon a time, but new Safari builds don't run on my systems. There's no reason that they don;t run, except that the developers put in an OS version check, that forces them to quit if it doesn't evaluate; meaning, that Apple wants to force-upgrade their users.
I dislike Chrome, as it's invasive, does as it pleases, and has a Ui built for people who can;t use a web browser. IE, is just rubbish, and always has been, except for one very old (v5?) build for Mac OS 9.
I've yet to find an Android browser that isn't rubbish, either. I want a Desktop OS type browser for Android. Is that too much to ask?
I should also note, that I use VNC quite often, to access remote servers, via my Android devices, then run a browser on the remote server, via the Android device, for fully-fledged capabilities.
Opera was a good try, but it simply never made it, in terms of usability, and purpose. I used it a very long time ago, on Max OS 8.x, and some other systems.
On Linux, Firefox 24. No debate there.
I also used to routinely use Casmino--a Mozilla-based browser) on OSX Panther.
I do not want a web browser making choices for me: I install my own security plug-ins, run ad-blocking tools, NoScript (an absolutely critical tool), orhter protection protocols, including custom loopbacks, proxies, and VPNs. I manage my own security, to a very high degree of effect. I have never had malware, spyware, or anything of the sort on any system that I manage. That comes from intelligent selections in software downloads, plus anti-scripting mechanisms.
Thus, no, TenFourFox 18, and modern Firefox/Chroms, I do want Adobe Flash, and I do not want you to control the version. I can determine if a website is safe, before loading the scripts that exec embedded media. Other people aren't so dilligent, so I comprehend why the average user might want those 'features', but the sheer fact that I can;t manually disable this kind of content control--TFF v18 removed the option in about:config--I'll use my outdated software, and spoofing tools to make websites that want demand newer versions, accept it.
My biggest gripe, is YouTube. Naturally Google owns Youtube, and they want people to use Chrome; but did you ever notice that IDM is a Firefox extension, and not a Chrome extension? I certainly have, and I rely on it to rip YT videos. Not because I want to pirate them, but because the TY player is awful, and has no pre-amp, or graphic EQ. It also has a tendency to stop dead, in playback, whereas if I download a video, to a local disc array, i can view it at my leisure, and repeated viewing doesn;t use bandwidth on each instance.
Now, if this went over the heads of users here, I semi-apologise, and I advise you to read up on the matters that I brought into the light here. Most of this, really is important.
What kind of sane person keeps more than 20+ tabs open anyway? Heh.
You do have a valid point, though.
On average, I have 50 to 150 tabs open, in up to three windows. I multi-task, and need that level of information at a glance. Yet another reason that older FF builds are my mates, as they use fewer system resources. Chrome? May as well plaster a label on it that says, in red and black letters, 'If you run me, close everything else first.'
