I'm trying to decide what kind of mountain tiles I'm going to be using in my quest from now on. The ones I have right now, are GB style. But they seem very boxy to me. So I'm going to need different mountain tiles. I've been trying to think of whether I would use BS, or Radiens excellent simplified LttP mountains. What do you guys think? I'm thinking I should go with the LttP mountains, but BS mountains would be easier to rip over the current GB mountains. (Palletes aren't a problem, the overworld pallet I have right now has 4 browns.)

Use the simplified aLttP mountains! And the simplified Dark World mountains too. They're sexy. icon_naughty.gif

Wow? Didn't I just make a topic like this? It isn't necessary to just copy my thread when you can just read mine and get the advice there.

Anyways, stick to the GB. You ARE making a GB game, correct? Besides, not everyone can use the LTTP mountains.

If it's a Gameboy quest, use Relic's mountains from the Sun Tower tileset. Those are the best improved version of Gameboy mountains in the database. icon_smile.gif

I certainly would like to see more people use my simplified LTTP mountains, if you understand them well enough and if they fit your quest. They're about as simple as that style of mountains can get, so they're definitely your best bet if you're a beginner to questmaking who likes LTTP mountains.

BS mountains are always cool, but practically no one seems to know how to work with them... which is ironic, because like you said, they actually function very similiarly to GB mountains. It's just that they're so rocky that people can't tell which tile represents which part of the rock face. icon_shrug.gif If you've somehow managed to intuitively realize where to use all of them, though, then hey, knock yourself out. icon_wink.gif Here's a bit of of advice, though: if you use BS mountains, it will probably look best if your "dirt" ground type is a solid color, and either dark brown or brownish-grey. You see, BS mountains aren't originally designed to have walkable ground tiles on top of them, even though it's quite easy to design a screen which leads Link to climb on top of them via a ladder or stairs.

However, trying to make the tops of BS mountains transition into another ground color usually ends up looking butt-ugly. It's better to just assume that Link is always walking on top of a flat surface that connects to a rocky ridge somewhere, so that transitions won't become necessary. icon_unsettled.gif

Wow. Why didn't I see those before? They might also work. And yeah, I won't be using BS mountains. And hey, just because it's a GB game remake doesn't mean it has the same graphics. I'm trying to aim for a complete overworld tile revamp, which makes LttP style mountains good for this. GB mountains are the dumbed down versions of the LttP mountains themselves. Take a closer look at the detail on both. They're both wavy, along with some other similarities. icon_razz.gif

The original demo of LAZC perfectly captured the feeling and renaissance of Link's Awakening, but I feel that your new tileset has ruined that altogether. icon_frown.gif

That what is I was trying to point out, it would just ruin the whole aspect of a LAZC. Unless your aiming for a LA Remake "ZC".
