I never got any kind of warning about it in the taskbar. icon_confused.gif

Mind taking a screenshot of the warning you're talking about? Maybe I'm just picturing it as something it isn't, but I always kept UAC turned off and my notification area stayed clean.

do you hide inactive icons? are you running a service pack 2 beta? its just a red icon in your system tray with a info balloon popping up whenever you log in to windows.

No, I had SP1 and I don't think I hid any system icons (but if I did, wouldn't that make your point kinda moot since it would mean that you can keep it from alerting you? icon_razz.gif ). The only thing I ever had in my tray was the update reminder. o:

I can't check now though because I transferred my files to 7 and erased my Vista and XP partitions.

Yep you get that message all the time. disabling the message in vista disables all system warning which is why it is reasonably stupid to disable that message under Vista. Under Windows 7 you can disable UAC and disable specifically, only the UAC warning while keeping all other Warnings appearing.
