It is caused by using a plastic component to hold the disc drive I believe. It melts causing hardware failure. Newer consoles since whenever (dunno when) use a metal component instead and as such, dont break down so easily icon_razz.gif

it was all discussed ages ago on news sites and stuff.

(EDIT: I'm not sure it was the Disc drive bay, but it wasd efinatly to do with something being made of cheap plastic instead of the recommended metal version).

I hate the whole, "Don't move the system or your game will get sotomized!" Happened to GTA4 icon_frown.gif Also, why wouldn't MS replace you system. Nintendo replaced my broken Wii icon_smile.gif Yes I broke my Wii once... it was my brothers fault.

So what are the odds of me having the RROD? I'm hearing the earlier versions chances are 1 in 3. But on the newer versions, the odds decreased a lot.

not high at all, imho, MS woke up and relaized that the cost of manpower to check and fix affected systems outweighed the profits made from selling the system icon_razz.gif

I wonder when Microsoft will wake up to the irrelevance of "integration" of their products. They all suck anyway. *shot*

Anyway, I doubt you have anything to worry about. I have a cousin who has an older 360 and he's left it running OVERNIGHT for THREE NIGHTS IN A ROW ... and it never RRoD'd on him. You're probably safe.

If it makes you feel any better, I've never gotten the RRoD and I've had mine for a year and a half. I just don't over play games.
