My power went out the other day and messed up my comp, I was told to do a system restore to fix it, I did so and set it to do a backup of all my stuff. When I tried to get into the my documents folder in my backup it said that access was denied, I checked and it said the folder was empty, but later I ran my virus scan and it scanned that folder and it turns out that everything is in there, I just cant get into it to get rid of it (i re downloaded all the stuff I had), and When I try to delete it it says that access is denied. Does anyone know how to get rid of it, i tried booting in safe mode and that didn't work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try using unlocker. It may be able to allow you to delete it. icon_wink.gif

Tried it and it still didn't work. Any other program like that that might work?

Eh, I was hoping it wouldn't be this at first, but it really sounds like it... It sounds like you have some bad sectors on your hard drive due to the power outage. A way to possibly fix this is to do a scandisk of your hard drive. Right-click on your C:/ and click on Properties. Go to the Tools tab and click the "Check Now..." button under Error-checking.

Really and truly, the best scan disk would be the one at startup, but you would have to start your computer up at the command prompt, and I can't remember how to do all of that at the moment, to be honest.

If what you're using is XP and what you want is to get your files -
1. Reboot and log in as administrator (safe mode will work, and is required on XP home).
2. Right-click the folder and choose properties, then the security tab.
3. Click advanced, Owner (tab).
4. Click "administrators", tick the "replace owner on sub..." and Apply.
5. If it still doesn't work, go back to the security tab, click add, type your username and ok. Then select it in the list and select "allow: full control".

This, by the way, is the standard way to seize ownership and full permissions on any file or folder that you're locked out of by the NT permissions/security settings. Needless to say, you need to be administrator to do this.

Strange... I've never heard of a power outage causing your access privileges to be screwed up before. icon_razz.gif
