I've googled and perused the NDSi's settings but I can't seem to figure out how to disable the picture preview on the top screen without deleting all the pictures in the photo album. Do you guys know how?

I think that the pictures marked with a star will show up on the top screen. If you remove the star tag from all the pictures that have it, no pictures will how up. That is what I did, anyways, you could also try removing all tags from all pictures (the hearts or whatever).
