It's quite simple. All you do is make a basic screen with no layers. Then, make another screen with the treetops, etc. Lastly, on the first screen, go to Data -> Layers and put in the coordinates of the second screen. Layers 1 and 2 appear above the main screen, but below Link. Layers 3 and 4 appear above Link, but below flying enemies. Layers 5 and 6 appear above everything.

Another way you can do it is by going into the Layers options, setting what map you want each layer on, and then clicking "Auto" for each one, choosing "OK" when the next window pops up. That will set the map and screen for each layer on every screen on that map. That way you don't have to go in and make new layers every single time you start a new screen, because that gets annoying. However, if you try deleting a screen, you will still have to reset the layers for that particular screen, but the rest of the map will be untouched.

I find that auto-layering is more of a hassle than a blessing, because I sometimes put the original screen and layers on the same map (BS Overworlds take up half of the map, so I save map space by making the other half layers).

You don't do any layer on the second screen. The only reason that screen exists is to put whatever is in it on top of the first screen.

Okay. On the first screen, put everything EXCEPT the treetops. On the second screen put ONLY the treetops. Does that work? The second screen should be mostly black.

You make a screen... You make another screen that u want to show up on the other screen....
(example : treetops) then you make everythin else transparent and on layers u type in where it is

The "x"'s on the bar you talk about are the layers that appear in front of you.

Each one that has the "x" will be the ones that are visible. Very useful for figuring out what your layers are and where.
