KKK me again!!

So I gone ahead and used DoR cuz I'm stubborn....

SO I played around with the cliffs and transparent water...

Water went well, but the cliffs are only just getting there.

Link!

Here is a SS of a practice screen.

Top Cliffs to me look ok, but the bottom cliffs... Look kinda wrong....
ALSO the left and right sides of the top cliffs also look off..

So few questions:

Any cliffs that look wrong and how it be done right?

Also how is the over all look, like the details and stuff, to me again looks like it can be improved, but looks ok for starters!

Any tips is helpful!

Thanks!

Added marks where I think are wrong

This looks like a screen design question as opposed to a technical one, so I'm going to move it to Quest Design Help. ^^

It's honestly not too bad for a first attempt. I think your biggest problem is the unequal height of the mountains. See, look here.

http://i206.photobuc...tPstomarkup.png

In the red areas, it's one tile high. But in the green area, it's two tiles high. Try picturing that in your head. Imagine the surface of the water and the bottom of the river are both flat, but it's 8 feet deep in one spot and 16 feet deep in another. It doesn't make any sense. For example, here's a quick mockup screen to show how the cliff heights would be better handled.

IPB Image

Oh yeah, another thing, I'd advise using the SD3-topped mountains, like the ones in my screenshot. They work better for this kind of perspective then the "puffy" grass topped ones.

That's... actually pretty good. I really only have a few minor suggestions, and even then, you can ignore them and it's still a fine screen. First, the clump of trees around the heart container piece looks a little strange. I might suggest using just one or two kinds of trees. Second, the plants coming out of the water look kind of weird with the transparent water, seeing as they just kinda disappear underwater. But overall, it's a great shot.

Double post sorry D:
I really like this screen, and the only tip I have is maybe to try another palette, because that could make this screen really shine.

I also noticed the LOL spelled in grass in the bottom right corner icon_razz.gif

I agree, to much diff tree's dose kinda look silly.
As for the water, not much I can do unless I make a title my self to fix it, which I might actually do :3

Actually ill look at other pat's icon_razz.gif

KK I changed it a bit:

IPB Image
So i changed the palette, this one looks pretty sweet!~
I also made a title for the water plant thing, not being the best title maker, still looks nice!

Alright another question!

Right now i wana try a swamp map.

Q: I am trying to find a swamp like Palette (greenish water ext.)
BUT none seems to work well..
Anyone know a good swamp set up for DoR?

Q: Think it be alright to have both transparent water and none (not in same map)

Thanks!

AND CRAP double post again >_<

To be honest, how can people learn to use DoR if people suggest to avoid it? In my opinion, if you learn how to use DoR properly, I'm sure you'll know how to use any other tileset then.

Good screens BTW LTTP. icon_smile.gif

IPB Image
(BTW I forgot to put the snowy barrels!)
I FINALLY took a shot at my nightmare..

The side cliff thingy....
AND finally caught on how its done!
After all these years :3

Another thing in this SS is the middle path, I think the perspective is wrong....
BUT I could be wrong....
Anyone can give me a hand on this?

Also any improvements can be done?

ALSO still looking for help on the Swamp Palette thing :3

See question above!!

Random barrels are random. I would get rid of them unless there is some sign of civilization near by. Other then that, I think it looks pretty good. A little more detail here and there, and you've got a kick ass screen my friend.

I've made a swamp themed DoR palette before.. I don't have it anymore but, if you don't have something by tomorrow, I can try to work something up for ya. Should only take me around an hour.

I'd do it tonight but I don't have access to ZQ at the moment.

For the record, what version of the DoR set are you using? I ask as I want to be able to just send you the .zpl file after I'm finished. Ease of application and all that.

In the meantime, if you're any good at creating palettes, you could try Orion's LTTP set. I'm fairly sure that there's a very solid LTTP Dark World (aka swamp looking) palette in there that you could use.. You'll just have to do some work. Move some colors around and whatnot.

Anyway, my offer stands.. I'll check back on this topic tomorrow. If you don't have a palette yet, I'll see what I can whip up.
