Well, I'm memorizing how to write Hiragana
So far I memorized: a, i, u, e, o, ka, ki, ku, ke, ko, ga, gi, gu, ge, go.
Anyway.
I plan to know the grammer after I memorized all the hiragana letters.
I was just wondering.
If you know the grammer and some stuff.

Can you understand Japanese?
Because japanese has stuff like "Nani" is what, and sugoi is amazing etc.

So I was wondering do you know these words if you know the Japanese Grammer and stuff.
Or, what do you need or do to know Japanese Words?

Why don't you try getting a children's book in Japanese? Then, step by step, you could move onto more advanced books. Then you could watch a children's show in Japanese while testing if you can understand everything. I would assume that this is the best way to learn a language. Not just trying to memorize words or having a teacher plan everything for you. Memorizing is the first step to forgetting.

Especially since if you have limited time to study, you just cram, which means that you study it and you know it for a couple days, then you forget most of it, due to feeling that you'll never need it again. So don't try to learn it all very fast.

Well, the grammar for the most part is simple. You've got the SOV (Subject Object Verb) form, which is backwards from english, which is SVO (Subject Verb Object).

English: I watch TV.
I is subject, watch is verb, tv is object.

Japanese: Watashi wa terebi o miru.

Watshi is subject, terebi is object, miru is verb.

(Note, they mean the same thing, I didn't conjugate the verb in japanese (miru->mimasu).
Now, Japanese relies on a bunch of "postpositions" or particles, such as wa, ga, o, te, ni, e.

Read up on japanese particles and sentence structure, and the grammar is pretty simple once you get the hang of it. icon_smile.gif

Well, I'm learning a set of vowels every day.
Like, a i u e o was the first set I learned when I staretd learning.
then I did ka ki ku ke ko and etc.
Now I'm up to Na Ni Nu Ne No.
I bought a book about japanese words.
I bought two, one I could write in, (they give exercise and practice questions and stuff.)
and the other one has a BUNCH of greetings, food, etc.

so yeah.
I'm planning to do this:
Learn to Read and Write Hiragana
Learn to speak and understand Japanese (the two books)
Learn to Read and Write Katakana
Learn more stuff on Japanese (I'll buy some other books, and some CDs would be nice. I'll also watch an unsubbed episode of an anime to see If I get it or not. I'll also play a little of Japanese games ilke Phantom Hourglass and stuff. I'll also read up more books to see if I can learn more Japanese words)
Learn to Read and Write Kanji.

Well this is the plan I have so far.
I should be done by.... next year. early next year........
....
I think. or more.
Maybe December.
November? I don't know, but I'll just take my time.
