are all these file necessary? is there a version that is a little more cleaned up?

I'm not sure what you mean?  The Windows demo is a single .exe, for example.  If you're referring to the "full editor," RText, it does a lot more stuff than ZScript editing, so yes, all the files are required.  Fully installed it's < 16 MB, so size should not be a problem on any computer.
