Circular map with three times of backtracking through the east and west wing. Much troll, very mad. The actual ring in the dungeon is a bladering, usable as a boomerang.
Wow, good ideas flowing.

For a first screen, I'd probably go for a typical village area, with Link's house and a few other houses around with more people.

A village that is on a beach plateau is the first thing I imagine with that palette

You wake up on a mountain with no equipment, with a cave in front of you. you enter the cave and then you traverse through the cave. When you exit the game you find yourself in a village and people tell you the dangers of what is atop of the mountain. During the end of the game you come back to the mountain and the final dungeon is there.

Rumours of a darkness that lurks beneath the mountain...

I would actually recommend using these water tiles instead:
IMO it would look neater for the overworld rather than the other water tiles you used which are usually for dungeons. I'll also suggest Shane's additional tiles too.
You seem to be off to a good start though, looking forward to seeing how this will go.

Question. Is this quest dead or is it still going on?
Regardless, a community made quest seems like a great idea, but my suggestion would be to make this a miniquest.

It's not. I don't want this to die. To put it simply, I've been incredibly unmotivated to do anything recently, and it shows. I intend on picking this back up soon, I just was in a terrible mood at the time.
A miniquest sounds like a great idea, I agree.
